Today....

Thanks. 1/2" is way too small for my hands. Used them for years. Never went back from 5/8".

I'd take a 3/4" three strand wire-core, for sure. I'll be looking into that.

Mine get replaced out of concern for flex fatigue, even through they have swivels. My stuff stays wet at times for some part of the year...PNWet. The rope trapped in the swage will give more longevity.
Cheap confidence-retainer to have a newer one.

I use a 5/8' most of the time and agree it is more comfortable. The reason I have that one as well is that sometimes I'll run two flip-lines on the same side and I want to have two that feel very different so it's harder to mix them up and make a mistake.

If I'm just bypassing limbs to set rigging or a top rope on a removal tree, situations like that.

I use 2 flip lines, both 12 ft it helps with work positioning, usually when I'm climbing up especially on pines I don't use my climb line just the 2 flips and keep a snap on my climb line with a descender ready to go so I just have to flip it around if I need to get out.

How does that work in an emergency?
That means standing in spurs up and down.

Try that with one slippery hand. Blood is super slippery.
See how it works, without your heart going 110, etc.

Try that while being swarmed by hornets.

No horse in your race.

Any more, 99.9% of cutting for me is SRT, with an express bail out to the ground in seconds being available.
