My knuckleboom hooklift mecanil sg160 build

Yikes that's a lot of rubber. I've managed to teach myself how to shift without the clutch. I don't split the lower gears but do the uppers. It's flat here so it's easy. I did learn to turn off the jake while shifting without the clutch on the low side. Took a few baths of coffee to learn that one. I just don't get anywhere fast and cars hate me. Makes it fun sometimes.
I used the clutch as I like to run the rpms up high and it helps to mesh them easier. All the guys gave me a hard time about it, but none of them could keep up lol.
On most of the ones I've driven the Jake is tied in to the clutch so if you just put your foot on the clutch it will turn it off, When I was empty that's what I would do as you don't need to get the rpms up as high.

Oh snap. I’ll try that. Thanks

Next week I should have pictures and video of my remote/crane being ran

Meanwhile here is a look at the remote I specifically requested
Have you ran them with a remote before, it can take a bit to get comfortable with them when facing the truck. When we converted to remote none of our guys wanted to use them, there was like a full second delay and then the boom would move a ft. I'm sure yours will be super smooth and quick responding, will you be offering tours :).

I had an old smaller knuckleboom that was remote operated for around 2 years. I did not run it daily, do I was still learning on running it without looking at my fingers. I hear you about the delay, and on my old crane the rotation was a lot faster than any other moment (and more delay)...so I went for a few crazy rides while operating the crane from the hook.

Truck might be at Tcia Expo in Charlotte this year for Fassi. I had offered it (when I ordered the crane) and they seemed to be open to it, but I have not heard if it is for sure. I need to find out.

You can do the same thing on these new electronic throttles. Just a little pressure but not enough to give it go go juice. Its tough to feel the pressure out when wearing big clunky boots though. Driving moccasins are the answer :)!

Ha I dont even know how to use the clutch in anything over a 6 speed 8 10 13 18 I can shift them all as fast or faster no clutch no matter the rpm.

:frenetico:
We had a bucket for the old 100' skyhook I ran at a sign company, when someone was up in it you could give them quite the scare by tapping the control forward and dropping the bucket 6-8', you just had to be sure they were harnessed as those old round sticks were just like a fishing pole and you don't want to send someone out of the bucket lol.

That's a bit of a drive for me, but would be fun. After all the talk here I almost stopped by my old drywall job to see what they were up to, but then I figured I better not as they would probably tempt me with a job and I'm over hauling drywall.

New pictures from today.

Mecanil Sg160 is running. Beefed up bent manual...their estimating it will be good for 5000 lbs when short pinned as pictured (not load tested yet). 20180815_153925.webp
Mat rack that will hold 3x6' mats on each side of the the truck. Plus it will hold the grapple (on top in the center)

Are they sure about the 5k on the bent manual? Seems super over engineered if so, How is the weight of it. I'd like mine to hold more but not at the expense of a ton of weight added to the chart. Just curious. Always wonder why the pal manuals have such a low rating on the medium cranes

The shop guys really beefed it up (metal plates inside etc). One guy can lift it, but it is pretty heavy...I'll check on it's weight.

Fully extended (short pinned on manual) and flat horizontal I should be good to take 500 lbs

Looking sharp!

Yeah. I'm getting the hooklift container from tfi (Thompson Fabrication Inc). That should be done by September 7th, and I'll take the truck out there to get it (or pay 1200 for shipping it the 300 miles)

What size container? $2/mile should be easy enough to hire out.
