Show off them splices

You need ball tip needles, the ones that come with the speedy stitcher are chisel point, made to pierce leather. You can round, and smooth them or buy industrial sewing machine needles. Moss found a great source for some to hand sew eyes. The company is Tippmann Industries, go to the accessories section, then find the needles. I was just there and they no longer carry the size I was using the 7x3 110. I ordered the 7x3 120 which is a little bit bigger, so will still work. To fit in the speedy stitcher, I think Moss said the shaft has to be ground down some to fit. Check out the Documenting My Hand Sewn Eyes thread here in the Splice Rack for more information.

So i know this may not be the area for questions but i think y'all posting in here may be interested in an answer to this as well..

Diving into the Aesthetics of a good looking splice, does anyone know where i can find neon colored whipping twine? I know about Roblines & Marlow multiple colors, but im talking Neon to match most ropes..

Is it acceptable to use .8mm Spun Waxed Polyester? There's plenty of that kicking around in Neon. Excuse me if it's a retarded question, I've just never physically touched bare whipping twine & i know #4 = .8mm & it's a waxed poly. Wasn't sure if it was easily substituted by other items.

You can use just about anything that is an appropriate size for the rope it is going on. Something about the same size as a strand of the rope is usually recommended.

Hahaaa! Nice! I knew you'd be good for a response on that Brock!

So i don't need to stress over it being too strong or cutting the rope being whipped? For example, I swore i saw some high tensile dyneema..idk.. maybe it wasn't.. Not that i really wanted to use that exact product, but I'm more so wondering..

Hey check you pm in a bit.

Too small of line and dyneema might cut the rope if there is movement from flexing, best to not use those. The whipping doesn't have to be real strong, as it's job is to only keep the splice from being pulled out under low, or no load.

I think as long as you meet the intent of the manufacturer you should be fine. Use a thread of similar size and strength and don't worry about material. I have used 550 cord for whippings the ends of big rope and to cover the lock stitching. It works great.

Right on gents.. thanks for the help..
Y'all should see this first splice i did.. the rope is so nasty.. i now see why it's not advised to splice with dirty used up rope. That was not easy.. I think i collapsed the eye pulling so hard when trying to bury it (16strand). Is that even possible?

I'll show you what I'm talking about

You see where my fingers are? It feels kinda sorta hollow inside. I didn't tapper the core in eye as far a i know. I used Samsons 16 strand instructions.

As u can see below, I had a hard time entering cover..probably gets easier with experience.. I was using automotive picks... Picks not tappered & wide enough like a fid maybe? Not enough leverage to pry it open?

Keep in mind, that is a picture and not a video. Those crazy dingos are afraid of the little kitty. They are getting better together, at least when the dogs are tired.

Santiago.. any input on why that dirty eye splice i was messing around with feels kinda hollow? It's super super tight, but cover feels like it has a tad if play.

You splice alot right? That happen to you ever? Just trying to learn here. Gunna be doing some T Vee in a few days, i don't wanna muck it up.
