X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard tree

Hey I finally edited and posted a video; the first one I've edited and posted.

I'll get faster at the videos now, I've got hours and years of tapes.

This one was from this season.

Hazard tree to remove in woods along stream. Not allowed to drop anything in stream.

Tree too unstable for tying into or rigging from.

Used two other trees instead, but both of them had cavities too; not as bad.

What do ya think?

He is a diagram attached to understand the setup and you can decide if you want to watch the video:

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard tree

a try at the diagram again:

Hmmm, attached diagram not working.

Anyway, video is a little slow at first showing the situation, then it goes quickly between the scenes.

hope you enjoy.....

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard tree

Excellent, Dave, Isn't it nice to have that many rigging points to do the work from. It greatly minimizes the stress's put on the hazard tree. It appeared that it was in lead with the two rigging points also. Which for the most part is good.

And you had a good high TIP to support you. I like the part where you swung into the tree. Your narration and audio wasn't out of balance. And the camera man did a good job keeping the shakes down.

Technically on spot, Dave. Great job, and a fine first video. Can't wait to see more.

Very cool X

I like the control you had on the logs, no swing and next to no movement. Also like the way you guys were able to direct the log around obstacles while lowering.

Good stuff X, something new for me.

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard tree

Nicely done! Both the video and the job.

Aren't trees amazing? Even with all of the rot and strength loss the tree hadn't failed...yet...

When I was learning rigging in my teens I can remember the first time we did a double rope lower. Using natural crotches and half inch three strand hemp rope is sure different than using modern tools. Take another wrap!

wow guys, cool, glad to see you did like it.

That's motivating me to post more!

fun...

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard tree

Nice vid, I liked the log section where they seemed to float off with no effort at all. By the diagram you made you have two hobbs/grcs on site for this one?

Keep them coming I love seening k-boom crane trees I'm still very amazed at what they can do.

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard tree

I only owned one Hobbs at the time. My good brother Matt let me borrow his so we had two that day (dang, i forgot to thank him in the credits!).

Our GRCS came about a week after this job; or i would have used it.

Thanks. I'm looking over some k-boom ones to post. I'll do a simple one first, gotta save the best ones for last.

YOU CAN SEE THE DIAGRAM? I CAN'T, IT'S JUST A RED X.

Dave, video is fun, but you'll find out it comes at the cost of a lot of time. And that's what it takes to do a good job with video.

Years ago in the age of film I read that for every minute of screen time there are ten minutes laying on the floor. And that didn't count the time to do the production and editing.

Jerry...do you have a coeffecient like this for video production?

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard

Fantastic rigging. Just amazing.

Good job on the editing, and your voice doesn't sound nearly as dick-ish as I thought it would.

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard

Tom, for the most part I archive my video and pictures categorically. The pictures go back as far as the 70's. the video only more recently. Most of that is less that 12 years old.

When I want to build a project I review the photographs and video clips and pick the ones I think will work the best.

Still always shooting new stuff and putting it in store for future projects.

I can honestly say though for every minute I put into a project it takes about an hour of editing, at the least.

Re: X-man\'s first video edited and posted, hazard

Superb work.Video showed it well. Cant wait to see more.
Im often asked why I like to watch this stuff when I do trees every day. This is why.

The end result shows the dedication you put into it, GB.

hey cuttenwolf, good to see you on here finally.

Man, good thing there was an orange x on that dead beech tree on your avatar! Description, "huge dead beech" in the estimate wouldn't have likely been enough to identify the tree to remove.

Looks bigger than my beech!
