Would you have a problem climbing this tree?

Got this tree yesterday. Its a small cottonwood the utilty comany we sometimes work for wanted removed. The tree was on a island only accesible by boat. So we went out to the island without ever seeing the tree.

It was over a cottage and the the lines and all had to be rigged down.

You're kidding, right? I would find a way to remove that tree without climbing it. Take the lines down, use a winch, you name it. I wouldn't be tied into that crap!

I'd have to see it but I would consider cinching a couple of 4x4's with several 10k lb. straps to it and climbing it.

I got it down OK. It was a T and M job so I took my time and roped down very small pieces. But I was sill nervous the whole time.

was it all reaction wood from the line rubbing it? if so, then no i wouldn't have a problem climbing it. although, i think, i would have guyed it a couple of different ways.

Tough to tell from the shots.......how much tree was above the defect? other tree to tie into or rig off of? Lines were all dropped and deenergized?

2/3s of the tree above the defect. The other tree was to far away. The close's line was deenergized but not dropped.

I would only climb that if i could tie into the other trees and rig into them. It only takes one accident, be safe. There is no heroics in a fall.

Nope, wouldn't have rigged out of it. Might climb it but no way I'd shock load it. With 2/3 above the defect? Nah, I wouldn't even climb it.

Be careful dude, nowadays, the trees are usually the weak link in the system.

Would've rigged off the other trees in the pic. A Tip in the other or as suggested a highline.
