Would you have a problem climbing this tree?

F-no. I've got a wife and a life to come home to.

As others have said, tie into another tree or trees with a breakaway lanyard system. Highline. Bucket. Crane.

That almost looks like someone just cut a notch in that tree around the line. That would for sure be a walk away situation for me. Crazy stuff.

Good job Jeremy looks tricky

Good work on getting it down.

Did you pull test it first?

Did you feel safe enough?

What would you do differently or the same if presented with this situation again?

just wondering what sort of breakaway lanyard system you have used. I definitely could have used one in the past...

I knew I could get it down safely if I was really careful. I looked at all the options, but the closest tree was too far away and the possible swing would have brought me into the line. In the end the only options were to climb or flop it on the cottage. I didnt like climbing it at all.
I know this shouldn't come into play, but I felt a little pressure to get it done. We just started working for this utility company and I didnt want to tell them I couldn't do it.

That sucks.

I climbed a dead tree today. White ash, dead 2 years, split at the base, three 12-18" leads, about 45' tall (at this point).

Secured the leads together, tied up the split part, and had a second TIP in a nearby black cherry. It was 'safe' but still sketchy. We did all we could do to mitigate the issues, and I got home in one piece.

Having said all that, I still would never climb the tree this thread is about. I guess I'm just trying to define my own parameters for what is safe, and what I'll do. We are all different, alas.

There was a thread about it, or with ideas within.

Tom Dunlap presented the shower curtain rings as the breakaway connection, tested for the right number for your weight beforehand at the shop.

I haven't used a breakaway lanyard myself. I have used a lanyard with a hitch and no stopper knot. Compress friction hitch and slip off the end in case of emergency.

Others have suggested zip-tie(s).

A low breaking load piece of cord, tested beforehand, as a link in the system can work.

I would have to say i wouldn't climb it,but i have climbed some pretty questionable stuff, like we all have.I'm just glad i wasn't in this situation
