Would You Climb It?

I kinda have a plan to remove this.

I'm just curious what others think, if this is something you would attempt to climb/rope on.

Believe it or not, this tree has a full crown every year...

All I see is the DO NOT ENTER sign. So I would say don't climb it. Oh wait, that is probably the sign to say the pictures didn't upload.

How did you upload your photos?

Apparently google is not allowing my pics to be seen, as the pic i put in my intro thread is broken as well... i hate you google...

Looks like its fixed, I re-did the img insert.... weird...

I see 3 now. As a general rule, no I would not. But that is based on just your pics. In real life there might be something there that deems it safer than first glance. If after taking a closer look the tree appeared safer than possibly if I could have a primary tie in elsewhere and would be able to stay light on that tree. Breakaway lanyard would definitely be on my mind.

That's what I was thinking... I dont think its worth taking a chance on...

So my plan is as follows:

The Yellow line is a 5/8" static line to be used as a high line. -I still have to get a 5/8" trolley.

The Orange line is a 1/2" static for traversing, and the green lines are rappel/climbing.

I wont try rigging it, technically there are some targets near it, but nothing that cant be protected or fixed.

BTW, i am posting in firefox, and then i go to IE without being logged in to verify the post, and it seems after I posted the "plan" picture, the first 3 pics in the thread blew up.... I hate you google...

It's really hard to tell from pictures, but I think I would climb that. I would set up some webbing bracing on the lower 15 feet or so and climb it. I would not rig it. But I would let pieces fly. I can only see three of the pictures though. So my opinion could change.

I was thinking about the same concept Royce, just couldn't tell from the pics whether there was enough wood to trust the leaders from cracking and twisting together.

Yeah, I would have to see it in up close to decide. But, There is some good callus wood that leads me to believe it is plenty strong enough to climb, but not rig. Also, I would cut the pieces right off and allow no hinge wood to put any force on the tops. (bending moments)
