Wot ITCC?

I'm puzzled by the lack of interest the ITCC generates.

Admittedly I was there and just home so I am buzzed. But still... it's the main skills competition of our industry. It makes you realise how much of a fringe thing it is at the end of the day. The customer really doesn't give a toss whether you're tripple ITCC champion or whatever: If the farmer from down the road can do the job 50 bucks cheaper he'll get the job. It's maddening.

I suppose at the end of the day it's about education. And that is exactly where the TCCs come in. It's up to us to make sure it stays that way, that we use these events to demonstrate and exchange "best practice" standards and don't degrade them to a Formula one/NASCAR type speed event.

For all of you that have never been to a TCC, you're missing out on a great thing! Believe it or not, it's not about winning (the way I see it): you get to meet an amazing crowd of people. People from many different walks of life from lots of different places. It's stunning!

Have a look at the DVD of this year's ITCC (get it from the ISA). It's a bit of a cracker. They showed it a the Arbor Master/Sampson bash on sunday evening, four hours after the end of the comp... talk about fast work! Tree guys Bruce Smith and Scott Prophet get to perform a song about - you'll never guess it - yes, trees. These guys are talented! Good stuff anyway, highly recommended.

To all of you who were there: It was great getting together. Everytime I say to myself this is the last time I'm going to all this trouble, yet I know I'm kidding myself and I'll be back next time round and love it!
