Working SRT sysytem

I see your point Mark. I'm going to fiddle around with my system and adjust it accordingly. I still don't think I'm going to generate enough force with a fall to break the frame of my Ultrascender, but the issue with the cam shredding the rope is definitely valid, and I might as well be as backed up as I reasonable can be.

Leon, I wouldn't think that the handle is frail enough to be a huge concern either. I guess that my point is, if it is no harder to clip into the upper hole (also locking the rope into the shell) then why not just clip there and gain a little more safety from it? It's simply just my opinion Leon so take it with a grain on alcohol or um salt!

Just bear in mind that the force of falling on a doubled rope system (very, very low stretch)can generate over 1000kg of force, let alone 1000 lbs! and that is from only a 50cm drop (easily possible). Now think about that hole you're clipping and that aggressive cam.

But there are other important issues that haven't been mentioned that require careful consideration, such as where is the end of the rope anchored? If I work this system, and I'm eventualy going to the top, I'll run up a running bowline, if straight forward enough, to anchor the SRT line to the top. That way, I don't have to worry about cutting through my anchor when getting on with work i.e. its easy to forget your on SRT when working Ddrt.

More than that, I always tie off the SRT line above head height if possible - its one thing to kill yourself, but don't forget about the trigger happy ground worker clearing brush around the base!

For these reasons, working off SRT in anyway should be the exception rather than the rule.
