Worker pulled into wood chipper

[ QUOTE ]
I prefer an engineering philosophy that gives even the most modestly intelligent a means of avoiding a gruesome death, particularly when it only costs the manufacturer a lousy 200 bucks to do it.

those cables are just a way for a chipper manufacturer to say, this things DANGEROUS! and we dont wanna be sued!

its a crock that those cable are there, and Vermeer has proven they dont need them with their safety devices. The lower trip bar, 4 way feed bar, and vertical feed wheels make it MUCH safer to chip alone than any other chipper out there.

Re: Worker pulled into wood

And so we are clear, this model of Vermeer 1800, released over 10 years ago, does NOT have the safety features of the newer machines.

The missing fender is a good indicator of co. maintenance, and tells of the safety culture here.

can you please clarify your stance on WTC? You earlier said that it is any chipper 15" above. You keep mentioning grapples, and enclosed cabs though and saying Vermeer 1800's in the same sentence. We own plenty of these and have never seen one with a grapple or an enclosed cab.

To me 20" and above is a WTC, the rest are brush chippers. I especially dont see the connection to a 15" or 18" chipper with multiple safety devices built in, to a WTC with a grapple and enclosed cab with not even a rverse bar.

can you clear up the confusion please?

The Bandit 1700 has a grapple and a cab; it also states clearly that it is NOT INTENDED TO BE FED BY HAND in BIG labels all over the front of it. It's an 18" machine.

(The feed control is in the cab only; to the right of where I sit, and away from the grapple controls.)

Well Ill be damned, there is an 18" with cab and grapple! With hige warning stickers telling everyone about its intended use!

Still have seen an 1800 with that set-up, not even a grapple with outside controls like a Woodsman 18XX or 20XX.

Jomoco you still reading this thread? I would love some clarification on the previous questions you dodged.
