Yes, it is acceptable to ride the ball if you are tied in above it with rated hardware

Not totally true. It is not an accepted practice by osha. Ansi means nothing really when it come to this realm. We get away with it because OSHA looks the other way.
OSHA asks that you do an evaluation of the tree and site and determine that hoisting a climber is the only way suitable for that tree. Suitable being the safest way to remove the tree. Money can not be a factor. So, can a track lift be brought in, bucket truck, can the tree be climbed....etc?

Daniel was that on your way up or down after? Been 5 years since I climbed a Doug fir to prune. Miss them beauties.

@JontreeHI Shit really as bad as what I'm hearing down there? We have had a cold snap and a few days of snow (not at the same time)... Perhaps I should take a working vaca...

Come on down jesse. We are still working our way through some of the failures on the west side from the ice before before xmas. I took a week off, but because of road conditions i only worked 13 days in jan. Rough.
City just lets the snow sit, and melt a little then freeze, etc.

On my way down...HO was on his deck taking pics and delegating to me.
Nice straight forward climb....did the job with my Zubat!
Just love the pruning jobs; on my way out now to tackle a Madrone( Arbutus)tree...large double leader est. 40% die back(blight). Spurless pruning!

Its good to hear I am not the only one struggling with winter issues. We have a lot of big projects that we just can't seam to finish because of storms that roll in and dump snow and ice. I have three large jobs started and not a single one finished. I have three more two week long projects I bumped until march because of the weather around here.

Do you have that much snow Royce? Basically bare ground here.....if there's too much snow for access now I'd be worried about too much mud in march.

Yep, same here I've got a few big jobs in the books but this weathers been so up and down its hard to plan and it's a full time job just keeping my yard snowblowed and trucks ready to roll. Some days it's just better to stay home and do something else ! ( dreaded paperwork! )

Seven dead pines stripped and chipped today.
