woodsman 18xtreme

There are many variables such a horsepower and few model differences. Do you know the exact model, engine make and horsepower? That said Woodsman by far is the best chipper on the market IMHO! They are very simple in design and easy to work on.

I currently own a 12X and a 15X. I owned an 18X for 3 years and sold it in 2008. It was used by our "removal crew". The only reason I sold it is we went to grapple trucks and stopped chipping. I have nothing but positives to say about Woodsman.

Jimmy, I have a 12X and LOVE IT! The one thing that the drum design leaves to be desired is that you absolutely need the autofeed to work, because the motor bogs down faster than a disc. The 18 is a bit more bad-azz than my machine, though, but the quick rpm drop may still apply.

Meaning....you work on them a bunch?

They chip like nothing else we have used, but like every other chipper out there they have their issues. Some models seem to have more issues than others. Seems the bigger models fall apart easier than the 15" and below. I speak only from using the 18XX and the 790. I know a few folks with 15" that LOVE them, and have had very few issues.

The upside is when we have problems they can be resolved in our shop. Unlike some of the other products I've owned that no matter how mechanical you are... they gotta go to the dealer! I have owned Woodsman's since 2005 and they have never needed a repair that couldn't be accomplished in our shop.

I would agree with Boston Bull, "They chip like nothing else we have used."

that was the very first piece of wood that chipper saw. the chip throwing issue it had in that vid is more or less addressed. it may not be all that impressive in the video but i'll tell you what. every once in a while that machine will make you stop to watch it work. that thing is redonkulous when it comes to chipping. it will fill your chip truck, no doubt. so what that on the odd occasion you might have to shovel some chips into the truck, the amount of work it saves is worth a little bit of shovel time.

i still say that that thing will outchip the vermeer 2100. all day.

this vid is a little bit more impressive imo.

25 years ago I started with an old whipper chipper, owned Bandits, then morbarks, ended the company with a 12X a 15X a 18X a 20x oh yeah and a Morbark 20/36,

Woodsman were the best drum chippers I ever owned

What was your max bid, Jimmy? I was at a friends house and was trying to slide in an $8k bid but it was too close to time running out (timed out after I clicked "Confirm").

Totalled out my work truck last week and still waiting for the settlement from the other insurance, so the timing wasn't the greatest although it's a convenient 2.5 hours from me though.

Congrats!
