wood stove

I am thinking of putting a wood stove into my existing fireplace. The heating bills were killing me last year and I think it would be a great alternative to paying the "man".

Any suggestions or things to look out for? Thanks in advance.

Tree Dr don't let him install the stove!

We have an Osburn 1800 bay window woodstove and it has been great! When purchasing a stove make sure that you buy the best stove pipe (outdoor pipe) that you can, it usually costs more then the stove. A blower is not always required, especially if you have ceiling fans throughout the house or a 2 way fan motor on your furnace for air circulation and your stove is on a lower level of the house. We don't have a blower on ours and it cooks us out of house and homes most nights and it gets real cold up here in the winter. The bay window is nice for viewing the fire almost like a fireplace. We purchased the optional brass legs and door trim for an added touch. It definitely saves us tonnes of money and you can't beat the "feeling" of heating with wood!

Also, I would suggest that you build a bigger pad then a smaller one for ash and stray sparks and coals when the door gets opened. I am sure glad we did! Osburn also make the same bay window models as fireplace inserts. http://osburnstoves.com/html/18_22insert.html
If I was using an insert I would probablly get a blower for it. My brother has one on his fireplace insert and it's nice but I think that it's a bit noisey.

I just got a new stove lining for my chimney installed, its attached direct to the stove.
It now makes a weird whistling noise/humming! what in the blue f*ck is going on? it is driving me insane, its not the top of the chimney either that is causing it.

HELP! all you stoveheads!

It's those trees you hate looking to get their revenge. Don't dare sleep with that stove running. What goes around comes around bro!

In fact, I hate trees.

I just pretend to like them to make money.

I would love to live in the U.K. where the entire tree population has been decimated by the common or garden tree surgeon.

What is wrong with that, I'm being truthful.

In fact I enjoy cutting trees down for firewood.

I love it.

I saw the tree up, I split the logs, I store them lovingly in a dry place for a year to season like a fine wine.

Then I throw them into the stove........

I love the smell of oak logs burning on a dark winter's night, the sparks, the crackling of the wood as it turns to charcoal before my big saucer like eyes as I stare into the flames I'm imaging A world without the influence of evil doers like TreeCo.

One day......maybe.

I'll bet the noise is relative to the speed of the wind moving past the exposed end of your stack. This setup is much tighter than what you were previously using, right?

(Ever blow across the open end of a bottle?)

Sorry for so late in responding. Check out this photo, it may be what your looking for. This is in our family room. Must say we do love it!
