Wood chips Does anyone have to compete w/local gov

Does anyone have to compete with their local municipality for sale of woodchips? Our local cty gov. set up a landscape recycle center. (sounds good, right!) It has been a tripple edged swordfor many local businesses! Before it opened every tree co. had a list of chip buyers a mile long. Now we're paying to dump them! Now we are also driving long distances to get rid of them. The l.r.c. also sells firewood. We have to pay to dump logs and cut them to 3' lenghts. They also take brush which encourages people to do it themselves (and poss. get hurt) Any feed back would be appreciated, thank you.

We've never been able to sell ours. We just give them away to the local farmers. They use them for roads, mulching, etc. They're happy to have them and we're happy not to have to get rid of them!

Tip mulch. From the tip.

Was readily for sale cheap to residents but then we got a little visitor from America that canned it good and proper. The fire ant.

So now the green waste is still mulched and transported to the new eco friendly power generation plant where it is burnt to make electricity.

However it is pretty ordinary mulch and you'll find bits of plastic, old shoes, wire, nails etc in it.

As far as the council out doing trees then getting rid of it's woodchip ... they tend to use it on their own gardens etc so no direct sales to public .... also not enough volume as a lot of the tree work is subcontracted out.

The best mulch is chunky woodchip not that fine ground stuff.

This site explains a bit about that

http://www.drouintreeservices.com.au/mulching.html

and recent editions of The Australian Aborage have good detail about mulches in them where woodchip comes out on top over finer mulches and bark. Just may help you market it if they are selling ground up greenwaste (tip mulch).
