With or Without Gloves?

[ QUOTE ]
do you use the gray colored Atlas winter gloves?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yep, amazing how warm they are! MN low temps are cold for sure, but nothing compared to our Canadian brothers!

I find the atlas gloves get stuck in my hitch often.. and they leave a nasty smell on your hands at the end of the day.. that doesnt wash off

[/ QUOTE ]

I agree. I haven't used the blue Atlas gloves in a long time. I get the Ugly gloves for $1.00ea if I buy a dozen or more. The latex wears down into the cotton glove with the Ugly gloves, unlike the the Atlas, which peals and gets stuck in hitches.

For those who don't use gloves:

You've gotta feel the heat in your hitch a lot more when you are hot dog'n in the tree.

I can especially feel the heat through the gloves when I single line descent (when I'm blocking down a spar with no TIP). It gets hot with 100% of your body weight on the hitch.

Usually no gloves unless I'm doing pines. I've footlocked both ways but I wear gloves if I remember'em. Smurf gloves are my favorite but the grey atlas ones are good too.

Maybe the liners would prevent your hands stinking like dead rat after wearing the gloves for a few weeks

I change (when it's HOT) over to fresh gloves 3 or 4 times a day, then throw them in the wash. I cannot understand individuals that wear filthy gear.

What is UP with THAT?

I usually wear gloves but lately I've run out so haven't been wearing them, my hands seem to be getting "tougher" and so I don't notice not having them as much.

Interesting Jon. So, do you find it harder to grip rope when you hip thrust? Or, do you think your hands are getting stronger to grip the rope?

[/ QUOTE ]

There's definitely better grip when wearing the gloves. At first my hands were getting pretty torn up without the nitrile gloves on, but now I like not having them to 'feel' the trees.

TD has a point however, girls don't much appreciate sandpaper hands!

Gloves almost always. Type of gloves depends on what I'm doing. Mechanics style gloves with the velcro wrist have been working out pretty well for me while climbing. Pretty rare that I work as a roper these days but when I do I use thicker gloves for running ropes.

No gloves. No problem foot locking without them. I really liked the sticky gloves, but I always tore them. Was all about gloves for the first few years being pro. Now I only use them in winter, when I'm ground guy rigging control, and climbing/handling white pines (sap).

I was wearing ANY glove out in a week or two.

Got sick of buying gloves and started to toughen up the hands, man my grip strength has gotten amazing.

BTW I don't use shaving cream to shave with either. It keeps your face from being naturally tough enough to handle a dry shave! Get tough no gloves.

Yea my girlfriend does not like the working mans hands. Some ladies are all about them

wow, i wear gloves as much as I can. My hands are still tore up and callused to hell. i cant get away from beat up hands. I'm with jamin. the dollar gloves they sell at rental places and tool places are the way to go.

I have started wearing gloves lately because when using a Friction saver the hitch generates more heat. My hands were getting to hot when running my hitch so i felt gloves necessary.

I don't find that i need gloves for holding my rope when ascending via footlock or body thrusting.

yep those "buy by the case labor redy gloves" are the best gloves. the rubber is in the knit vs. over the knit like the atlas gloves. The atlas gloves are worthless because they tear up so fast, ussually by jamming the friction hitch. they are also much more expensive. ,
