wind......

I'm sure I am not the only climber (especially in the north east area) that has been climbing in what seems to be every day since hurricane Sandy, THE FREAKING WIND! Anyone else feel like they are still swaying around when they get home standing still?

If you know which way it's going to blow?

You can make it work to your advantage on certain jobs.

You always do the touchy stuff early before the wind picks up.

Wind can both help or harm you in cool balanced Confucian way.

Right after a big blow, I take comfort in the early morning calm, looking up at my target tree and thinking, well it withstood that storm well enough, it should have no problem holding my puny 200 pounds!

Big wind is climber's best friend.

Generates biz too.

I like it when the ropes go horizontal.

Ya, seems to happen when I go to grab it, and it nicely flies away........

I wish I could say its calm in the morning, but it has been steady wind throughout the day lately... oh well, enjoy the ride while I'm up there!

We've had a bunch of 15-20 MPH days, lately, but overall it's been climbable. It can be nice to see all the saw chips fly away from you on a removal job...if the wind is right.

Sometimes I'm trying to figure out which way to toss a branch out of a save tree when pruning out storm damage. The wind can be a challenge, but I'll second Jomoco that it can be our friend as well.

Seems like we usually always have wind in the winter around here. Some days are better than others too.

Also depends on the lay of the land for us. We have a couple spots where the wind rips all the time and couple other areas where it will be a windy day but you wont feel it at all.

Like Jomoco said too early in the morning it doesnt seem as bad.

Oh put on your long johns an get up there already!

We had a job with some 55' cocos right on the North shore of Maui. We'd get there at 6, and by 8:15 we were doing 12'+ circles up there. It feels more sketchy when they've still got a full load of nuts on them.

evan, you are "nuts" ;)

was that with dan?

With Dan and Mark in Spreks. There was a tree, not the tallest, but it had the most massive rack. It took three struggling men to get it into a cart... I must have a picture somewhere. Maybe it will turn up...

I found this while searching. These two pictures almost summarize my love for Maui other then my ohana, I don't have pictures of abundant taro, other delicious easily grown crops.
