mmmmm apple bananas

[/ QUOTE ]

Something we don't get up here. People are confused what they buy at the store here is more like starch with a little banana sweet. Those were something else though. I had one stand of bananas, can't remember where I got it. They just produced these huge racks. Might've been apple I guess, but it wasnt like any of the other apple bananas I had...

so speaking of wind, im pruning 7 cocos and removing one today, in 40 mph gusts. loaded racks and about 2 years of growth.

maybe your bananas were just grown in prime growing condition? had optimum amounts of everything it needed? you should see the veggies being gron at waikinalani farms! they are hydroponic and HUGE. malio is doing a great job with his wife. good guy too

sorry fairfeild for the derail. we hawaii people get soo excited over organically grown fruits

What happens to the coconuts after you guys cut them off?

Is there a commercial value?

Are they ripe enough to eat when you cut them?

Ripeness- good to consume at any stage. When they're quite young they are alkiline and a week bit bitter. As they riper the water takes on sugar, as the spoon jelly meat forms. Then the water ferments, still good, a little effervescent as the meat hardens. Then the sugars from the water move to the meat for storage. Finally you have a nut that may be brown and shrivled on the outside, inside there is almost no water, but the meat is sweet oily meat. Delicious rich coconut cream if you press it. Still yet if you find a sprouted coconut you can eat the inside. The meat has become fluffy a lot like cotton candy.

Such an amazing fruit.

Commercial value- if you want to take the time you can sell to tourists at Beach for 3-5 bucks. Stores may pay 1.50 if they need them. Bulk is 1.50-2.50.

We would consume them during water breaks.. sometimes sell. Frequently bless people with nuts. For hydration I reccomend pretty young. Once they get much sugar at all it's too much to be drinking constantly. I like to drink 1-2 gals of water per day. If it's coco water it would be too much sugar unless they're young. Plus alkaline is supposedly very good for your body.

hahaha! i know just what you mean. we do that with un edible coconuts and mangos. footballs on lunch break with the little coconuts, goal is the chipper. ;)

evan, we had some gold nuggets today. soooo tasty! but you should have seen the palm i removed today! the inside of the coconut palm was white up until the last trunk section at the end where it was dark pink red and soft rotten. so soft that the saw practically dropped into the pieces when i was bucking them.
