what I do is put a bight of climb line thru my right side D, and clip a biner thru it as a friction brake, works good and the only possible thing I can drop is a carabinerYeah, homemade wrench for fat ropes is easy enough.
Neat thing about the rope wrench is it can fail, or break or fall apart or be removed and shouldn’t result in a fall. Gonna have to figure out some way to get down, since the hitch will bind up hard, but beats falling.

this ^^^Rather than going to side d's clip an HMS biner to your bridge and use a Munter below your hitch.

I dont know either, but im thinking its because the wider part at the top allows a munter hitch to work properly, for all I know it may also bee what alloy its made out of, and how wear/heat resistant it isNope, do share please.
