Why do you like the thinner ropes?

Yeah, homemade wrench for fat ropes is easy enough.

Neat thing about the rope wrench is it can fail, or break or fall apart or be removed and shouldn’t result in a fall. Gonna have to figure out some way to get down, since the hitch will bind up hard, but beats falling.

what I do is put a bight of climb line thru my right side D, and clip a biner thru it as a friction brake, works good and the only possible thing I can drop is a carabiner

Many options.

A simple one is to wrap the rope around your feet like in a foot lock position and use the hitch as a 'backup' while you slide down the rope.

Rather than going to side d's clip an HMS biner to your bridge and use a Munter below your hitch.

I'm surprised that during apprenticeship these, and other, self belay/rappel skills weren't taught.

Nope, do share please.
I dont know either, but im thinking its because the wider part at the top allows a munter hitch to work properly, for all I know it may also bee what alloy its made out of, and how wear/heat resistant it is

You're serious?

You want me to do your homework for you? Hahahaha!

Not going to happen. There's a reason the shelves in my library are sagging. They are filled with books I've read.

At some point books hav e faded out of fashion. Now there is so much easy access on the 'net. The catch is that there is no peer review. YOu've gotten caught in this problem. In too many online sources for Munter info the line that 'an HMS biner should be used' is found...but!! There is no explanation why it should be used.

I'd really prefer that no one shares why an HMS should be used here in this thread. It takes soooooo little effort to do your own homework.

Oh, while you're learning, what does HMS mean?

Yeah...I'm being grouchy today...deal with it LOL

And...the alarm in your head to go and find out why did't go off before you posted your lack of knowledge?

Do some homework don't wait to be spoon fed everything else by people who did their own homework. ALong the way you'lllearn sooooo much more
never asked you to do homework for me

Been out of pocket so haven't been able to read all your replies until today, but thank you for all your insight and for the interesting discussion that followed. I learn so much from this forum...

You have been teaching tree people for years, selflessly sharing your time and knowledge. You have earned the right to answer as you please.

However, I hear this phrase frequently these days, regarding not doing your homework for you, and find it a bit of a perplexing response. You have real knowledge. A quick search of the internet will turn up God-knows-what as an answer.

I like the ~150 words just to angrily tell me no lol. I might be way off, don’t feel like counting either.
Will you feel bad if I fall to my death from muntering around on a D biner? Cuz I’m probably gonna do it again
