Roger, if you go to Kauai you should definitely go camp out or rent a cabin (cheap!) at Kokee State Park. You can explore Waimea Canyon and go for some mind blowing hikes in the park. The scenery is outstanding! Shoot me a PM or give me a call if you want details.

Last summer I went to my friend's wedding on Oahu. He got married at Turtle Bay Resort (think north). So, I looked into camping. Folks I paied $10/night for my wife and I. So, we only paid $50 dollars for lodging. That saves a bunch. Since we saved on the lodging we rented a red Mustang convertable and drove around with style.

Malaekahana State Park is the place to camp. I did much research on this and the majority of reviews liked this place. The locals love it too. Granted you will have to drive down (south) to be at the conference, but I think it is worth it. You can see more of the island that way.

Jon can validate this for me: the speed limits suck! Everything is slow! But, it allows you to see stuff.

If any of you live near a Safeway (grocery store) you can use your Safeway card for gorceries. We also saved money by only getting food from the grocery store. (Being a quest at a destination wedding helped too. We had catered food alot).

The point is this: Lodging is just a place you need to put your head down at night. Food, well it just passes through your system.

Will be there! Flying in Friday 27th. Headed back home Wed. 1st....

If anyone is in need of hotel still, let me know. Room for 1 at the Princess Kaiulani. Friday night through Tues night.

Anyone want to get together for some scuba diving on Tues?

Monday or Tuesday. I'm still trying to make arrangements for some kind of transportation, and weather may also be a factor. I'll start spreading the word once I've got it figured out.

Sounds like transportation may be worked out, as long as some folks don't mind getting cozy in the back of a chip truck. Like I said, I'll start spreading the word once everything is definite.

Interested in the rec climb. Keep me posted. Flying in today...Hadn't decided for sure on whether to bring the gear or not....Sounds like i'll at least pack in the minimum....might have to borrow or buy a rope off someone though....too bulky to carry w/

Well, we never got to soil our sheets at the Aqua Continetal, but, due to NW Airlines' flight crew smoking too much Kona gold, or something, we are mired in Portland Hilton. You coulda had our fleabag room all to yourself...if they'da a let ya have it....

Arriving supposedly at 3:30 today...shift, dang, fark.....

oh yeah, I've got a stationwagon and could probably drive between 3-4 heads back up the valley, with gear in the back... if schedules all work out.
