Which Bulletin Board?

If you were going to set up a new board, which one would you choose and why?

Right now I'm down to Vbulletin or Invision, but open to other ideas.

Would it be best to stay with a common board like Vbulletin that people are familiar with or would it be better to have something different?

Here you can compare the features.

Why not start another forum? He is on a whole different continent. He can be a pioneer to Australia and shape up those "cowboys." Let those guys out there learn from eachother.

Go for it Eric!

I've had to stop all Australian memberships at the TreeHouse due to all the trolls that originate from there.

'Tis a shame. Aussies can't all be trolls now, can they?

Good luck with your forum and let us know when the shirts are out! :)

Trolls! WTF? You better batten down the hatches and string garlic around your neck. lol

Big deal, they're easily gotten rid of by using the truth serum.

Hey Dan.

For many of us there is only 2 forums. Half the TH members are banned AS members, TB has reputable library members so home-owners, trolls and rednecks get screwed (except for MB). TH had potential but the owner lost the plot and turned it into his personal agenda site.

I reckon there's an opportunity for a non USA based site that's not owned or linked to an organisation or company (like ISA or ProClimber UK).

A place that lay people can get some decent advice and wannabe's don't get trained by misfits and unqualified quacks. The forum has to become the pushing force for change ... real people, real issues. Govt policies to be challenged.

http://www.crikey.com.au/ certainly rattles the cage of conventional journalism and now the internet is a serious media tool. Remember this fiasco when Milne shoved the owner of Crikey.com.au (Mayne) off the stage.

Crikey.com.au has also taken the most prestigious Walkley award in the past for independent journalism. Go to the site and see for yourself. It's hard hitting no BS down to earth stuff and exposes lots of problems and issues.

Over here, and I bet many places there's a need for information, regulation, registration, qualification etc. If progression is to come then we need progressive people who roll their sleeves up and get on with it ... not a bunch of whining about how bad things are.

How many local councils in your state or country? Queensland where I live has over 100 alone. And where's the links to their tree rules? where's their representatives of change?

I have seen UK council order tree work contrary to it's own bylaws, and in USA the local govt fined itself for topping. Well this stuff is what is on all of our backs, who's not getting undercut by hacks? Good on you, but here they are running rife with machetti's cutting crap in people's yards.

I think there's a place for a board that's going to get down and dirty. I'm at the coal face, I see the BS, the cherry picker drivers tell me 40% to 50% of the tree people they hop in the bucket with are hopeless, no idea. But who cares?

AS simply wont go that direction and is not owned by a tree guy. TB is too politically correct. TH, well, that's a speakeasy that wont be taken seriously.

So, then what we need to do is have the right people managing the right areas. A nice chummy guy who knows their way around politics gets to deal with them. A gun climber (certified) moderates the 101's and climbing rigging stuff and so on.

Moderators get rewarded as the income stream builds, members get benefits and group discounts, sponsors get sales, etc etc.

But what's the difference to AS or TB? Hey, looks like just another forum ... they're all the same you know. Yeah, and so do most ropes, saddles, cars, saws etc but you all know how well they perform depends a lot on the person using them. Who's behind the wheel and what do they know about trees and websites? Will they go the extra mile? Will they be fair in their judgement? Will they seek the truth? Will they get of their azz and do something about it?

Interesting.

The science of today sheds light on the faulty precepts of the past. What are we advising people about their trees now that will be considered chicanery later? Truth is subjective at best in science, as it is always changing.

Good luck with your forum. Creating something is always rewarding.

Going to be good ekka i will video plenty of local tree co's doing various work, i think the forum should be picture/video related as thats the way the world is moving.

like the youtube of treework, maybe even fit mb craning yet another easy T/D.

Im willing to put my time and effort into helping with the forum anyway i can.

Be good to show the Aussies leading the way to the future in tree forums.

Good Luck Ekka,

I'm all for folks pushing forward.
I hope it is as succesful as Crikey.com
You got alot of determination and motivation,
I hope it serves you well.

I went Vbulletin, seemed the best, I test drove a few. Invision was good too but I didn't like the "feel".
