When to Tag a Tree

Hi,
I'm in Ontario, Canada and I'm wondering when are tree tags required in regards to Arborist Reports (in the GTA). The reports are generally for areas where a construction project will be occurring, generally landscaping/park improvement type projects and the purpose - to determine which trees should be protected and which should not.
I have not really found in any of the municipalities requirements for reports if and when trees should be tagged. Does anyone have any thoughts or general guidelines for this?

Well, certainly before any grading/compaction/construction begins...fencing around tree protection zones do no good after the bull dozers have had at it.
Dont think there's an industry standard for an exact time a pre construction tree survey is done. Perhaps your municipality has a guideline for that.

How much time do you have before the project starts?

Objective drives scope, just like in pruning. How your client intends to utilize the inventory product will determine whether it's a good idea to tag the trees. I like to discuss the project with the clients in as much detail as possible in order to find out what they want. Then I offer them an ala-carte menu of relevant inventory tasks, and let them decide what they want to pay for.

Right. You'll need to know all the What's, Where's, and When's. Your inventory can than be tailored to need and potential conflicts and preventative techniques can then be identified.
