Ah, the closeup pics didn't come up when I first looked at it. Definitely Trident. Has great fall color and works really well down here in middle GA in the heat. There is a native growing along a creek here that is 60' tall and is a beauty!
I'm sure you mean a naturalized specimen. Trident maple is native to Asia. The tallest recorded trident maple in Virginia is 61 ft. and 27 in. diameter, so you may be seeing one of the biggest in Georgia.
Thanks Glenn, I'll have to look into that. Speaking of biggest trees, had a contact today regarding a Torrey taxifolia located here that may be the largest in existence. I will be checking that out also. I had posted it on TFAD a while ago.
