What the bananas

I can live with those thoughts Phil. Hence why I did not go down the road of attack of your statement. It would have yielded nothing but discourse. I merely stated what I got from them. More positive than negative. Totally agree about clmbing device choice, as well as all things climbing. All good.
You should attack me. I could use the anger outlet. I'm sitting on my couch with covid and missing out on the one vacation I was looking forward to this year.

I have a zigzag, rr pro, and hhfx. Each has their place and gets used accordingly.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes.
I can agree, but boy certain things arb just do not appeal to me. I am cool with that too. I have tried so much stuff. But those days get less and less. The arb world has hit a plateau with ideas.

As far as whole new concepts go, I'll agree wholeheartedly, but I feel like a few things have room to be further refined. I'm about ready to start mailbombing requests to Petzl to update the Chicane and steal some more of the great ideas that have been added to the collection. It's not my favorite every time, but it has it's place in my kit, and I want a v2.

There are only so many ways to create friction. Bend, pinch, or grab. And only so many ways to integrate those into a useful system.

Get yourself a Notch adjustable rope wrench and an Arbsession Caralink V2 8.5” tether and put it on top of your ZigZag. I wish I liked the ZigZag more, because it is a killer combo.

I have put the caralink v2 8.5" w/zk2 on it and wondered if it wasn't too short. I will give it a look again in the saddle.

That tethers' been a game changer for me

Comps are a blessing and a curse in my mind. I totally understand and agree with the ways it advances efficiencies and knowledge. But I just disagree with a speed factor being a major component to any skills competition that involves potential for catastrophic injury when something goes wrong. The current comp format encourages speed. It's one of the only judging criteria that isn't subjective. You're either faster than everyone or you're not. It will inherently lead to accidents in an already accident prone task. Think the ISA will put together a document that catalogs all the accidents and injuries at the various chapter comps over the years? I've heard plenty of stories but would like to see what the data actually says.

In any case, different strokes for different folks and variety is the spice of life. I like options and I'm glad I've found a combo of harness, climb line, and friction device that makes me comfortable so I can focus on the work.
So well said

I just picked up a HHxf at EXPO to support Richard. I cant wait to try it. This was a helpful thread.
I'm always curious what cord and wrap scheme folks ultimately settle on for their sweet spot. After trying several cordages and a fair bit of tinkering on mine, I've settled on the 9mm Marlow boa cord tied in the Catalan that's recommended by Richard. I don't dress it "tight" or "loose". Just tie the knot with a normal amount of tension in the wraps.

I am currently using 8mm HRC with the HH hitch, 5 wraps. I have so far found this to be the most predictable. I tie it very tight to start and after a little use it is just right.

Thanks for the recommend. Pretty smooth on ascent I'm assuming?
I found the tighter I tried to make the wraps, to avoid too much "stretch" in the hitch as a I weighted and unweighted it, resulted in a tougher time for the device to ascend smoothly. I use 4 wraps above the bottom catalan starter coil tied and dressed with "normal tension" and it runs fantastic up a rope. My device is at work and I'm not there today. I'll snag some pictures tomorrow and show how I configured the carabiner connector and attachment point for my chest clip.

8mm Armor-Prus works fine for me. I tie it tight with the least amount of wraps that will hold my weight when stretched. (See avatar pic) I find a few hard, pre-climb, hitch locking bounces followed by full releases, stabilizes the hitch enough to reduce the need for in tree adjustments.

An addendum: While climbing lines tend to improve as they work harden, I like my prussic cords fresh and slick. Much faster response. I will rarely get over a month out of a single cord.
