what keeps you busy this time of year?

pounding the pavement. making phone calls. checking out trees asap. following through in conversations. Pushing pruning, not turning down removals. Blocking n delivering firewood. Delivering chips. Turning the compost. Picking apples n making cider. ha. Whatever it takes man.

I would stay far away from a set price for anything. Each case is individual.

This time of year is hazard removals before the winds start up.

You can call your past customers, letting them know that you are able to handle new customers, and you just wanted to put a bug in their ear in case their friends, family, co-workers need something. You could give an incentive, such as 5% of the referred party's work as a discount off of your customer's next work at their own house, or you could apply the 5% discount to your customer's referral, instead, at their discretion, though you won't get the extra job from your original customer.

Business cards should be given out like water.

I really suggest trying to cultivate the local business. If I'm at the local gas station on our peninsula, and someone is eye-ing the grinder or chipper while I'm fueling up, I'll sometimes just introduce myself as a local cert. arborist, here's my card in case you need anything, thanks, and have a good day. If the are at this gas station, then they are more than likely living on the peninsula. If they have a fancy car, I'm more likely to go out of my way, figuring they are more likely to have some extra disposable income.

I've been pounding the pavement and hanging door hangers. I'm a VERY small company and have had some pretty good success this summer, only had a few weekends that I didn't have work. Im trying my best to keep that going into the fall and especially the winter.

I'm hoping to get the ball rolling so well that I'll be out on my own by may. So far my advertising is small. Local pizza shop boxes ( only 8$ per stack, costs me around 80-100$ per month) New door hangers, huge new lawn signs with custom built metal frames (24x36. My brothers a welder so all I had to do was buy the steel)

I've also got smaller signs in the works. They have my emblem, look similar to security signs like the ADT ones but mine say "trees protected by Powell family tree care. I only issue these to my preservation minded customers.

I tried the roof clearance deal and it didnt work for me,i guess people thought it was a scam. But I know it has really worked for some other guys.I been doing alot of different stuff.Call me sometime and will talk about it.

Get email addy's from all your clients and use constant contact and facebook. I am currently only using FB a little, but I don't have the need yet... Wait til next year LOL.

Constant Contact is totally worthwile, though, we use it for our NE Chapter ISA bulk mailings, etc.

You can make a business page. Kind of hard to work with it because Facebook hasn't perfected it IMO. Also just recently they switched from being friends of your Business to "like it" which is really confusing because now two boxes are on the side.
