these are all over hawaii! the ancient hawaiians used to use the seeds as brushes to paint with. they grow everywhere here

I can see them being used for brushes. They're edible, but really fibrous. They're a fairly common landscape plant here in Florida too.

when i used to landscape i hated raking these things up from the flower beds and rock beds. when those pods open they drop alot of those brush crap seeds. haha dont get me started on the leafs.
