What is 'fair' wealth distribution?

What then is fair and right?
equal distribution of wealth? Dreamer!......Nothing but a dreamer.
Is it fair and right that droughts occur in some places and floods in others?
I prefer the Biblical adage that to whom much is given, much is required.

It is not fair or right. It would be instructive to know under what system of governance those 62 individuals accumulated their wealth.

Yes...a Dreamer...thanks for the complement :)

Droughts and floods have nothing to do with this discussion...don't muddy the waters.

There are plenty of biblical quotes that can be tossed back and forth to defend any position.

Look back in history. Just prior to the Great Depression there was a similar wealth concentration imbalance. I wonder when there will be another economic course correction. This time I don't think it will be as easy to recover from.

Yeah, muddy waters have EVERYTHING to do with a discussion about human nature, ie. greed and materialism. You are striving after wind here, Tom. Don't like the way this world goes round? That's just too bad.
btw, one of the great industrialists and inventors of the 20th century, the late R.G. LeTourneau gave away 90% of his personal income in an effort to help others in need. His autobiography "Mover of Men and Mountains" is excellent reading.

What is money, really?

Is it power?

Who has the power?

Do you think anyone with immense wealth cares about being fair, if they can get more power?

I'm fair to people in my life, but I don't expect life to always be fair to me. It never will be, either.

Ah well, "Climate Change" is the real menace to humanity, (isn't it?)
Thus sayeth President Obongo.

Some think that the Rawlsian veil of ignorance scenario is a good starting point for reflection: the fair distribution of goods is that dictated by the fair terms of cooperation, the basic rules of which are those which you would agree to live under prior to knowing your place in the society--your natural talents, your handicaps, your ideology, your parents' salary and education level, etc., etc. It's bit like having to cut a pie prior to knowing which piece you're going to get. Under this condition, the one cutting the pie tends to divide it fairly.

Hmm...in what mathematic system does 62=3.6 billion?

There are endless comments here about tree workers feeling that they are worth more than what they're paid. There's a direct upward connection here.

Hey dudes, its been awhile.

Ol' RG was quite a guy. I got his book around here somewhere. If I remember right he went bankrupt and his thousand or so employees worked for free to help him get back on his feet. How's that for loyalty? I doubt you'd see that today.
He grew up in Duluth, I worked for his granddaughter in St.Paul. It was fun to listen to her stories about her Grandpa.

Hey Tom, you know what I do when I don't get paid what I think I'm worth? I quit and find another opportunity.

Gotcha...but the 62:3.6 billion ratio makes it hard to find another opportunity.

So,,,,,,,,,,,Tom,: What ratio would be acceptable?
Your opinion is that 62:3.6 billion it is neither fair, nor right.
An opinion I don't find much disagreement with, but since this is a discussion.......let's discuss it. I'll try to keep those darn Biblical, Shakespearean, Churchillian, and Atheistic quotes to a bare minimum.

Jim, since your current Prez. has made some kinda announcement about curing cancer, I'd like to thank you for your (reluctant) funding of his noble objective.

The current situation in America is the top 6 people own more wealth than the bottom 40% of Americans.
There was a type of the redistribution of wealth instituted in the Old Testament, which was the Jubilee year cycle,
Which was not a take from the rich and give to the poor, but rather a forgiveness of debt. usury was forbidden to your
fellow citizen.

Criticise someone all you want - but you conflated it with a derogatory term alluding to the origin of his skin colour...

I actually had to look up Obongo... - according to the fount of all knowledge (and undoubted absolute truth!) that is the Urban Dictionary; 'A play on Barack Hussein Obama II's last name, citing his roots as a typical Apefrican, bongo beating, bush monkey.'

If that's you in the photograph - I'd say you're the monkey.
