What is 'fair' wealth distribution?

Tom, With regard to your original post I would not wade in and attempt to discuss whether it is fair or right. I do however have a few points you may find useful to ponder or explore.

First I would challenge a knee jerk definition of 'wealth.' When I show my wife several cords of freshly split wood that we know will be more than enough to keep us warm next winter. Or when I proudly showed her several cords equivalent of kindling that will last us five years or more, we giggle and say,"we're rich, we're rich." What we think of as 'wealth' much of the worlds population would use as toilet paper or to start their next fire. Once I read a childrens novel about a native of some island. As it goes through his discovery of this cache of amazingly good skipping stones you slowly begin to realize he happened upon pirate treasure in this sub-tidal cave. He was rich, perfect weight, perfect for flat, and a beautiful gold shimmer as he skipped them over the water.

Second, I am big on tests. Take those sixty nine people and remove all of their wealth. If you allow them a reasonable period of life most that were self made will have it all back again, OR, have had a great time trying to produce similar results. Conversely, haven't you heard about most lottery winners? Broke or worse in x (2.3 years?) amount of time. This test of redistribution of wealth has been done and documented by the way.

There is a book, God Wants You To Be Rich, by Paul Zane Pilzer. He was an economist to the Regan Administration, and is a self made millionaire. (By the way God is seldom mentioned in the book as I recall.) Ten people land on a deserted island....he lays out fairly convincingly how they can ALL be rich.

Hmm,....sorry but, I think we are all about where we want to be.

First off, I think the distribution of wealth is sickening. Until we, as a people, decide that it is in our very best interest to live in true unity....this will continue... until the implosions and explosions become unbearable.

So, anyway, I take most everything I read and see and hear with a grain of salt. But watch the clip of this documentary on the Federal Reserve/Central Bank.....and tell me....is this REALLY how it works? Maybe you economic scholars and awesome tree climbing truth monkeys can shed some light on the issue...I am open ears...

Well said.

Not certain about the various conspiracies, but I believe there is plenty going on that we don't know about.

The fraud that bothers me the most is property tax. Even if you pay off your mortgage you will continually be paying tax on the same piece of property over and over. So in reality you can never truly own it. If you fail to pay the tax then the government can auction your land off to the highest bidder.

Governments are corporations. Corporations exist to make money for shareholders. None of us are shareholders. We are the workers. Expendable, controllable. It's easier for simple minds to blame the person in front of them for buying food with an EBT card, and using cash to buy cigarettes. It's all the "other" expendable worker's fault. We are all pawns in a very large game of chess.

And, I will top the crap out of a Pear tree for some of that sweet, sweet money.

"Governments are corporations." Actually, no, they are not. If you are liking the government to corporations, your point would be better made if you show the similarities.

"None of us are shareholders." Just sold shares of Alcoa. In recent years I've made modest profits on Caterpillar, BP, and GE. Don't you have a 401, a Roth IRA, or some other investment vehicle EZ?

"It's easier for simple minds to blame..." I don't really mind that you called me simple. **Hint: there are others reading these posts and they decide for themselves who is simple. But fortunately, most of this stuff is fairly simple. IE. the persons buying food with my money--I see that. 1/2 of the working age population is working, 1/2 is not--I see that. How much the government takes from me in taxes--unfortunately, I see that year after year.

"It's all the "other" expendable worker's fault. " Are you putting words in my mouth, or did you miss it? I never blamed the individuals--I blamed the enabler: the government, ie. Santa Claus. Policy has told them the same thing your rap video did--that they are victims, and therefore deserving of the evil rich people's money.

I'm a big fan of Robin Hood--are you? Something most people get wrong when recounting the tale--they say that "Robin Hood stole from the rich to give to the poor." In fact, Robin Hood stole from the corrupt government to return the poor's own money to them. It's an old story--an account of something that has been going on for centuries around the world. There is an old adage, "power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." You think government and industry are the same? Tell me what business had a revenue of $3.3 TRILLION in 2015? There is no comparison when it comes to size. This government is out of control, and Hil, and Bern wish to increase it tenfold--from your wallet and mine.

Out of all of the taxes that I pay, the last thing I am worried about is a government handout to poor people. I'm more concerned about the corporate welfare, and never ending war for profit. But, I do apologize for the "simple minds" comment. It's painfully obvious to the reader who is the simpleton (by avatar alone).

So,,,,,,,,,,,Tom,: What ratio would be acceptable?
This is one of the best questions over several of these threads. NO ONE can answer it, or NO ONE will. I've heard it asked over, and over--crickets.

It would be interesting to know how many people on this and the other political threads have the faintest clue about sacrifice/service. (Treevet & Steve Conally both served. Seems like Bingham was a policeman. Don't know about the rest.)

It would also be very interesting to know how much they currently give to charity--if at all.

My point is, if money is coming from taxes, they're all for spreading it around. But talk is cheap. Wonder how many walk the walk. Wonder how many give out of what they call "theirs".

Concentration of wealth is global so any solutions would have to take that into account.
I ask myself what would be an acceptable level of wealth for an individual? $100 million? $200? $300? $500 million?

At what point would I feel ok if it was my decision to redistribute some else's money?

What about yearly income? Where would the top tax bracket be? 100% tax would kick in where? How about $52 million? $1 million a week should be enough for an extended family to be comfortable. No?
