what do you think?

I wouldn’t say it was with ease. We had to pull pretty hard on each fiddle block set. Two people pulling on the fiddle block set and one person wrapping it on the port-a-wrap. Once each fiddle block set was tensioned we would tighten each strap. We did this in succession three times a day. Resulting in 3 to 4 inches of positive movement per day.

That was my thought too. Are you gonna change your name to Nashville Cat?

Nice job fellas!

Wow, those chains were close to the split. I sure woulda tried to get it up a bit higher, just for the leverage, and my peace of mind...

The odds were against you, but you still went through with it. A lot of risk! Do you have a wife and kids?

Because if I were in that situation (with all the factors you communicated) I would have backed down.--Simply, because I wouldn't want to leave a family behind.

However, it looks like you made a calculated decision to take on the tree and turned the odds into your favor. Hats off!

I would have let the tree split apart.

Climb it? No way

If it was gonna fall on the house I would have had the house evacuated.

Totally with you there Notahacker.

Knowing a little of the Co. they work for I'm sure a lot of talking and thought went into it before any work was done. Takeing back my first post. And a little of BIG CAJONES.
Be safe Scotty.

I did read the first post, and got the point.

After talking with many people about cabling and bracing concepts and the dynamics that are involved, I would be cautious about pulling things together. The loads generated are HUGE!!! Do some calculations about the weight of the tree parts then work through some of the forces/loads being generated by the lever of the split stem.

TreeCo...what is gained by pulling the tree together rather than supporting it in place? Don't get argumentative, I don't see a value but I would like to know if I'm missing something.

I would not have wanted anything to do with climbing that one. Nice job in getting that one done with no accidents. 11k seems low to me for something that gnarly. We are getting close to that for some large removals that are not nearly that treacherous. Everything here in CA costs more though.
