What’s Your SMALLER Equipment Setup?

I’d guess a tricked out 95xp is going to be close to 40k, I priced it out and went with a 12xpc sacrificing a winch for more machine.
A 75xp with all the bells and whistles was close to 30k back in 2021
That Facebook machine doesn’t look like it has any extra features, and only a single infeed wheel. Still a good price for a low hour machine but I’d be surprised if it had a thing bigger than 18hp on it which would be a deal breaker for me

He said it actually does have the 37hp. FWIW

i sometimes work for a guy who is using this setup instead of dragging branches to the street, even though the chipper can be a bit finnicky it definitely beat‘s dragging (and cleaning the path)
Over here you can get four strokes from 420 cc at about 18 HP to 500 cc and above now (or these) - might have to fiddle the mounting plates/ belts a bit but you could run them stock. The guys that go kart hop these up quite a bit (I like this guy's stuff) in both HP and Torque with different cams etc. Winter fun . . . .

they already had to weld the frame/chute on this thing because of all the vibration. a bigger engine will likely increase that, maybe?
Wouldn't think that it would too much if you leave the balance shaft in the engine and don't remove the rev limiter like the cart guys do. People upsize engines on things like snowblowers etc. all the time around here with no problems I've heard. With small chippers, the sharpness of the knives/ knife replacement regimen is a critical bit for the machine's operation. If it's hopping around that much something maybe is outta whack on the drum? Disc chippers I don't have experience with tho. Cheers.

Here is a one truck setup I had built for a friend, Custom 24' Goose dump with Platform, all the attachments a one man band tree guy could need (if you have a Class A license anyways).
All custom painted, Giant G1200 Articulating Loader, Branch Manager Powered rotating Grapple with DP capstan winch, Clamshells, Rake, 38 special Stump grinder, 1 yard Mulch Bucket, Pallet forks, custom Job Box, Brushwolf mower Hell of a crew truck

I haven't owned a disc chipper for a while. Do you think it throws chips better because of the paddles on the disc? I always chip into a truck so not much of a concern

Dope. You looked into a hyd winch setup? Guessing it would be stupid expensive.
I'm definitely thinking about it, but I've heard it could be like $6k to have the dealer do it. I would guess maybe $4k if I bought the parts to do myself, but haven't really priced it all out. Definitely would save a lot of labor in some situations.

I'm toying with the idea of getting a Cast Worky Quad with bypass grapple that I could load right on the flatbed between the boxes and I'd have enough room to put down 8ft ramps by jackknifing the chipper without unhooking. Seems to be the lightest weight mini available, but I'd still be right at or just over GVWR fully loaded with tools and the tongue weight of the chipper, so probably not the best idea. Maybe if I added some rear airbags? I really should have gotten a 1T, but found a good deal on this 3/4T with the flatbed already installed. Trying to optimize my solo operator single truck setup.

You have a Portable Winch (PW) @Treemuel ? If not go snag one and the extras. Reg C had a swiveling setup welded onto his chipper for the PW above the tray which looked fine but slow (and ropes by infeed…). Those Cast guys look neat and affordable, probably really good on turf with a turning mat.

Mike I'm not sure of the why. I've been told the big drum chippers chip big wood great and throw well forward and up to 90° each side.

I rented a Bandit 12 inch drum chipper (12XPC?) and was shooting the chips sideways into a neighbor's lot that wanted them. For education I spun the chute around and shot them over one side of the feed table...about 8 or 10 feet was all it would throw.

I'll have to experience an 255XP chipping big wood and how it throws.

I think I’ve had enough experience with various machines to say a disc will throw better than a drum, and yes, likely due to the paddles and overall larger diameter of the processing mill with the resulting speed at the outer diameter.

For instance, a 12” drum chipper might have a 24“ diameter drum at best (depending on the manufacturer), whereas a 12” disc chipper will have a much larger diameter disc. This higher edge speed for the same given mill RPM along with the paddles makes for a significant amount of air flow.

The point at which you’ll see a difference, especially with a proper auto feed, is on a drum machine when you’re chipping thinner branches in leaf. Hitting wood usually results in shorter bursts of dense chip racing out the chute. The thin, leafy material is often too light to make it into the truck.

A disc machine on the other hand pushes enough air that the light and fluffies tend to make it well into the chip body.

… Trying to optimize my solo operator single truck setup.
You’re doing a great job!
