What’s Your SMALLER Equipment Setup?

With the 23hp engine we run 3-4” diameter through and it rips through it quickly. Stock probably closer to 2-3”. It sucks chipping dead stuff, but live runs through great. It makes a big difference keeping the knives sharp, more so than chippers with hydraulic feed. Once you get used to processing debris in a way that runs though the chipper well, I think we can be quite efficient. It’s no 12” Vermeer, but I think they both have positives and negatives.
Thank you for the response. I was wondering about dead stuff because I do a lot of dead ash. The 23hp upgrade really makes me think it might be worth it.

Try feeding dead stuff into the hopper tip first.

Green and dead make a good mix, sometimes.

What is the original hp?

Is the operation rom speed the same, with less slowdown under load?

Sweet! I've been researching 6-8" chippers again. As small profile as possible that still packs a punch. These forst chippers in the UK keep popping up and for $12K seems like nice used options are available (over there). They are supposed to start selling in the US eventually. Seems like the 6-8" vermeer etc that I find in that price range are not nearly in as good of shape?

I'm back to putting the mini skid in the chip truck and dragging the chipper for most of my jobs. It's one more unhook/hook of a trailer and is pretty quick to load and unload. I have lots of spots to get rid of chips and can usually chip or ditch the wood somewhere.

The chipper winch is also great for a way to feed the chipper mechanically that's always on the job. At some point you're going to want a way to load wood though. Picking up logs gets old very quickly

I'm doing strictly pruning work these days (and PHC, Planting & Consulting etc). No logs to deal with for me :) I have a removal company that we recommend each other for.

If you can get a small bandit instead the extra infeed width on a bandit 65xp makes it a much more capable chipper than a 6" vermeer. There's a nice looking 7" bandit in my area for sale I think they're asking 15k but it looks super clean. I've been really happy with my 95xp even with just a 37hp motor it works well and not a ton of stuff to go wrong with it.

Cool I'll look into them. Thanks!
