Websites

We used godaddy.com for buying our domain name and hosting our site. I think it may be $20.00 a year? Fortunately, my longest-running employee also has 2 degrees in computer stuff, so he built us a really nice (in my opinion) site. We get more and more traffic on it all the time, it is the future of customer contact.

One page is a fine start.

I think that an "about us" type page is important too. Because it can remove excess wording from your home page.

You will get two kinds of visitors mainly. Those who want to see a home page that presents you as legit and they just want to call you now, and other folks who enjoy reading more stuff.

So it helps to have at least one other page for the readers. And those who want to go streamlined can find out if you are qualified once they meet you.

Contact is important. Look at sites as examples, and see which ones compromised by putting the contact or phone in small letters, or just as bad, a shade of green on a shade of green, or light grey text on white.

Contact and phone need to jump out or be duplicated.

Presently, I get about 1000 page views per day on my site. Enough to bring plenty of extra work. Last year, I reached $1200 from Google Adsense. But its still an "earning" because sites still take effort to make that feasible for Google. That's aside from the work and calls for estimates. Toward May, I should see near 1500 page views. Most on the advice pages, and a decent flow on the services pages where the pruning and landscape calls stem from.

Its more the result of the site being a hobby that pays for itself now. That's the cool thing about websites. They can transform into whatever you want them to be.

my ipage cost like 5 dollars a month for everything included. I can have up to 6 pages at this rate and email address's. Im considering updating to 9 dollars a month where i can have unlimited page access. I want to expand the site to add some educational matierials. its a great deal though. they allow you to access tools and marketing materials that most providers dont.

can you give me a link to your site

Anyone pay a service to make it come up # 1 on google. I looked at one so far and the price is determined by the population of the cities after a 1 time set up fee. then its monthly from there.

i cant get mine to appear on most searches. i think it takes a few months for google to recognize new sites. its crawler sifts through billions upon billions of sites so i can wait a few months. you can freely add your busines to google maps which only takes a few hours.

Mario. Are you serious? 1000 hits on your site per day? That's nuts! How and why are that many people visiting your site that often?

It can recognize your site in a day if you find the right non-competetive but related website to add a link to you. A ranking website can be visited by Google weekly or daily. Other sites added in recommended links pages will be read and Google's computers will do something with the information.

Know any landscape supply, nurseries, designer or contractors to network with on referrals?

Mario. So, you're saying you get 1000 "impressions" per day, right? You're not getting 1000 actual clicks to your page... Otherwise, you'd have the phone ringing off the hook.

Is that what you're saying?

Because, impressions (IMO) don't mean squat. (And I'm not attacking you Mario, but rather am communicating to all of us reading this). I want (and so should any for profit business) clicks that land people on my website to generate an inquiry immediately. This means when someone lands to a web site it is vital to quickly catch someones eye to get them to call or fill out info on the site because this leads into a $ale.

Notice how effective the "get a free estimate" button is on my site.

The landing page/home page on my site is not too busy. There is a huge banner with my logo and a photo (which needs to strike emotional appeal BTW). Just below that photo there is the light green button set in the dark green grass. If a person is browsing the site, that banner never changes. Why? Because you don't want someone to miss the way to be contacted for an estimate.

The google analytics (for my website) show that most visiters land on the home page, click "get a free estimate," fill out the form and then leave my site. Why? Because, that is some one's primary goal for searching for a tree company, they want a quote.

Also google analytics show that people will quickly go to fill out their info and then browse the site for more info. When people browse a site they are judging how professional and competent some one is. They make this judgment based on content, photos, and the user friendliness of the site.

The point is, if we are hungry arborists, we need to drive a sale. Most sites fail to do this.

My web guy has built a great site that is relevant for all search engines to reference and relavant for users seeking to get a quote.

Do you all read me?

I know this has nothing to do with this thread, but after watching Jamin's cottonwood removal video I was thinking that cottonwood looks like a carolina poplar (populus canadensis)which grows up here, so I was wondering if it is the same tree or a relative of it?

I completely agree. We need to start expecting our sites to produce results, just like any other tool or piece of equipment.

It looks like you really get it, nice site.

Aesthetically, your site is awesome. I also really like the way that you integrate it into your brand. Who designed your branding concept?
