Wanted: Trained Throwbag Dog

Ha, I went out yesterday with a leaf blower and still didn't find it, it must have really flown, but at least I was able to confirm to all the neighbors that I am completely insane running around the woods with a leaf blower. Like some guy on the beach with a roll of paper towels :loco:

I had the same thought, the incline makes it hard to see but I don't think so, I only went up about 15 feet to clean some ribbon out of the tree from my kids kite, I left a nylon placeholder rope in the tree since it is a great place for a swing. I might go up top today and see if it's sitting up there.

Ahhh, trials and tribulations of the throwbag.

I just hate them getting misplaced or stuck. The missions they've forced my hand to. lol

I'll try to take a pic of throwbag I've rescued, but pics never truly convey the situation and why I've had a 'how the f@&$ did that occur' look on my face.

I've had 2 times where my throw bag landed in water:
  • A book behind the target tree
  • A pond a ways behind the tree
The pool was ok -- just wet. The pond however, gave the bag a nasty mud bath :crying:. I'd agree that it doesn't matter the color -- it will eventually be brown to blend in with all.

I was going to say the same thing. They even make a beeping sound when you ping them. I’m sure they could make something more fitting for a throw bag. But how often do people have it come off the line?

Yup, that's the sort of thing I was thinking. RFID tag would be cheaper, but phones don't have RFID. You can get adaptors though. I wonder how DMM intends people to use their RFID in a carabiner? (Sorry, that's a derail from the OP)

Last coupla trees I took down, I was just thinking to myself "This Big Shot was one of the BEST xx dollars I ever spent!" No kidding, these were high (75'-80' ?), obscured crotches w/ all kinds of stuff growing... vines, suckers, other trees. I chinced and got the cheapest Big Shot about 5 years ago, one piece, doesn't fold up, etc. and I am SO happy with it. I think I happened to stop in at American Arborist in West Chester, PA and they were running a special, $80 or whatev, and it's just a FANTASTIC tool. Yeah I cradle throw, and I can throw decently high and blah blah blah but no doubt, on a bad day if it takes me 10-15 mins to hit my TIP with a Big Shot than UHHHH!! it would be more like 35mins without it. And yes it is important to have good throwbag skillz (dude, do NOT call me a throwbag) but I don't play on customer time! If it's a truly HIGH TIP I'm aiming for, I use the slingshot. When I'm rec climbing I may force myself to hit a high TIP with a cradle throw, just to see if I'm improving. I usually use my light throwbags (8 oz?) with the Big Shot and I still have to stretch that sucker way back. Big Shot allows for a near vertical throw (which I sometimes do by mistake when I truly spaz out with a cradle throw, hah!) and taking aim with the Big Shot is exactly like shooting a rifle without sights. It's amazing!!

That sounds sweet. I do think I need a mechanical aide of some kind, I don't mind practicing, but when it turns into my entire climb time I get ornery. :buitre:

Update: Dirty, faded, and wedged in the top of a fork 50' up an oak tree...

The way it was wedged, the tree kept it completely hidden from the ground, I went back up the same tree today and when I got to the top, I could see the strap sticking out. Looks like the brass buckle snapped when I yanked it, that little piece was still in the strap.

Mystery solved.
