want to do fertilizing

I'm thinking about getting into fertilizing and spraying.I don't know much about it though. Is there a certain time of year it has to be done? What do you guys charge?

Thanks,I don't want anyone to think i'm gonna start fertilizing tomorrow or next week, because i'm most certainly not.I don't know enough about it,so thanks for the link and any other info about the subject would be great.

Hope the wording in stearing you toward this site didn't come across as too brusk. That particular website has a great deal of information on its titled subject. If you can read it and absorb it you will be far ahead of most of your competition.

You will then be able to help the trees through knowledge instead of just product salesmanship...as is too often done.

no problem DSMc,
I looked over that website, looks like a ton of good information!Do you have any of the books they advertise there? If you do which ones would you recommend?I'm gonna have to learn the basics first obviously.

No, at least not yet. Just by asking the questions you have, with the desire to answer those questions, will be beneficial to both you and your clients. There is a lot of scientific information backed up with field research to prove the appropriate application of a product.

This information can be quite blinding. What you need to do is to have the background to intelligently sift through what is being sold and evaluate its benefits to the application to which you plan on using.

Sorry this sounds all so vague but you are on the right track. The website I posted has a lot of good information. There are many others. Don't sweat the small stuff. You don't have to be a soil biologist, just have a good basic understanding of what is going on.

I would try contacting your state dep or ag dep because they usually have books that cover the basics. They will also have a schedule of local course's offered that go into more detail about different pests to watch for and when it's best to do what. Also check on your states law I know in nj if it's straight fert your ok without a license but as soon as you add anything with pest or herbicide you better have your license because the fines are very stiff if they catch you doing it for profit.
