Walnut tree health

Hi all
I have a small walnut tree in my back yard that is great for myself and one of my two children to practice our hitches, re-pitching and lanyard use in.
Fortunately or unfortunately I am only a beginning recreational climber still trying to get over his fear of heights, (go figure,) but I am besotted with climbing and the skill with which you guys and girls handle yourselves in the trees and once there absolutely love the feeling of freedom in the canopy! It takes on a whole new meaning to the world below that many people don't get to see which is a shame.
Before I bore you all to tears my question is what can I do to try and save this tree in my back yard? It has been trimmed in the past and obviously some bugs are hard at work, is there some thing that I can put on the wounds/holes to first off kill the little buggers eating it and maybe something to seal the areas effected? It would be a shame to loose the tree as it is great shade for the girls during the summer too.
Thanks for the great threads and banter, keep up the great work

Adam

to start, those dont look like the worst of pruning cuts man. they might have been cut a little too flush to the tree, but they are healing alright. trying to cover or seal them will lead to retaining moisture and limiting airflow at the wound, which can create a site favorable for wood decaying fungi.
let nature (the tree) deal with healing those spots. the second picture from the top it the only one that shows there may be a point of decay or possible void, the others look just fine i think. without seeing pictures of the tree as a whole, i would suggest, if your that worried about it, just maintain the limbs of concern in a way that limits how long and extended they get, looking to avoid creating a situation that's all weight out on the ends of the limb creating a point similar to fulcrum somewhere in the middle.

another suggestion is dont go off just what im saying, let some of the other guys chime in too, im honestly taking advantage of your post to work on how to adequately word and answer the same question when a homeowner asks me that in person on a job site.
