It's always a pleasant surprise to see that someone wants to change the way a thread is heading (down) and not reply the way they once wanted! Thanks Steve. I'm just guessing that this is what happened?

Do you realize that Ekka's driving is not the subject of this thread? In your last couple of post you have called him "an idiot", "a busybody", "childish", and "displays a weak mind".

What is your real beef? Spit it out, Punk.

Ekka is putting himself at get risk in what he is doing. I know he said that he can handle himself but its just a matter of time before this turns ugly. I hope for his familys sake that it won't be serious. I have no problems with the video taping but I do have a problem with the lack of respect he shows. He is not interested in the safety of the crew working. It appears to me that he is looking for a confrontation when he is filming. I do agree with steve that the filming while driving is a distraction and could cause an accident. Just like it wasn't against the law to talk on a cell phone until you had enough idiots doing it and causing accidents that it became a law. I understand why ekka is upset but that doesn't justify his actions. Did we see some finger action when he was being tailed or was that just a friendly wave. On a positive note some of the other videos ekka has posted have been very interesting.(the mods and the rain forest and so on)

Re: Video: posse ... just another day on the road *DELETED*

i tried to get osha involved with some of the uninsured, non licsenced companys that violate every ansi standard possible and they told me that they have one person to serve three counties and until someone dies they were not interested.

Each time I caught these "hacks" I was parked while recording. I didn't record them all the way around town. Come on dog! Think about it. /forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I think Ekka's recording while driving is justified. In that context these guys could have physically harmed him with their vehicle. He was simply being defensive. If you had some guys following you, what would you think/do?

People die here all the time and they're still not interested. I never dobbed these guys in, I emailed the OHS people and they responded that they need to catch them red handed themselves and I would have to phone them and an officer would have to be available at the time to drive out and catch them.

Bit of a blow off I reckon, but I bet these guys would be worried anyway, you wouldn't believe that there was no PPE between all those guys and vehicles ... that's just unreal.

I'll get some more soon, my spider senses are tingling, the wheels coming around to bet on odds again, and I haven't seen anything odd for a few weeks! Maybe it's working?

Then again, I might go for a drive to a new estate and see what the developers are doing to the trees /forum/images/graemlins/aaa.gif

If he ran over your son or daughter while filming and driving, would that really be justified? I think that you would change your mind. I could be wrong!

The sky is falling.

I understand the concern but not the time wasting of reporting people or videoing them when instead you could be off to the next job, making happy customers, doing good tree work, and leading the industry by example.

The video scene looks like an accident waiting to happen. I especially like the guy walking by the back of the chipper and not paying attention (haven't seen a horror movie in awhile). Keeping people from hurting themselves is the act of a good samaritan, but since it appears that violations in your area are rampant, once you start, where are you going to stop? The fact that outfits like that take away your work is insult to injury. It happens here too, any low on work construction outfit with a crane becomes instant tree work experts, but since there are no regulated safety standards, I just look at the finished job......sad. If you could pass around an IQ test to those workers, then you might better know how to act.

What I have come to realise is that customers dont give a hoot about safety and professionalism as much as we'd like to think.

Price is paramount. The customers think as long as the company has insurance who cares ... if they break something so what, it'll be fixed ... and if a worker has an injury ... so what, not my problem.

Especially on removals, the end result is the same, tree is gone, why should they pay more?

Have you ever spent a lot of time explaining an intricate pruning job to clear structures only to drive past later and see a hack job, a typical "cut as the crow flies" lopping of large branches?

So on both counts you could say that you dissatisfied the customer and they went with a more appropriate company that did what they wanted without all the BS bells and whistles. Interesting indeed. They may even spread adverse word of mouth by saying "don't get that certified guy, he's too dear and wont do what you ask, get Harry the Hacker"

Haven't you noticed that once "going cheap" gets started, it becomes a real trend. Ekka, I think that what you and a lot of people who do good work are up against is more than what you see on the surface and may want to take issue with. Deep down there is some kind of spiritual depravity mind shift going on in society, and it manifests in different ways, including the hiring of hackers. How else can you explain it, unless the Australian economy is so bad that every penny has to be rationed. Workers leave brush at tree cutting sites here now to save costs, ten-fifteen years ago you would never see that. Customers expectations may be different these days, what is regarded as the standard has slipped a few notches. When there are more half-as@ companies compared to conscientious, half-as@ becomes the norm. I need to spend a lot more time now thinking about how to find GOOD customers, rather than just casting my net in waters where often I end up just wasting my time. Perhaps you can devise some strategy in this area. Being an independent worker of just about any sort is not for the weak of heart. Take pride in what you do, and don't let the pis@ artists get you down.

Two cents lecture over, have a good one!

have you ever stopped to think that maybe people are employing harry the hacker becasue he seems like a nicer person????
its not always down to price you know.
