Free climbing has it's place, ya'll.

I support that! There are times when it may be necessary or practical to free climb. Can anyone tell me he/she has never free climbed?

Yeah you will get riddicuiled around here for it but I have free climbed trees before, but in all good job. Y ou know your limits and you know your chances you put then together and did the job and walked away.

Treebear

I could not have said it better myself. On the subject of top handle saws. What are everyones thoughts on top handle saws on the ground????

I dont like top handled saws on the ground. I think they have poor ergonomics for extended use. The put excess stress on the forearm tendons. I think rear handled saws are best for ground work.

I think we have been down this road before on the subject of 020´s/MS200´s from other related links in this post section area, they have no place on the ground as far as I am concernd. Just use the correct saw it´s not that taskful a thought. But Im sure a climber would be the first to point out to the ground crew that it is not a ground saw, hypocrits!

Just to clarify, one handed chainsaw use is acceptable in the UK, however using a tophandled chainsaw on the ground is illegal.
Personally, I dont like my ms200's being used on the ground. we have proper saws for groundwork, why abuse a little saw?

my 254 packed up on one occassion when i was doing some light woodland thinning, the only other saw i had was an 020 so i did a couple tanks with that to make up the day. we were trashing the rubbish aswell.....after having done that i cant understand why anyone would want to use a top handled saw on the ground out of preference. i never do now at all....i only use it for topping

filming was very well done - what kind of camera? was the shooter in a bucket truck nearby? or just a good camera? one shot in particular 1:08 into the show - a small top falls away and it cuts to a slow-mo as a branch whooshes back and forth - a classic tree shot! great music too.

ok, now that's done... one handing the 020? all the free climbing? legal is fine - but a bit risky!

it was a fun video to watch -

peace,

t

Hi t, My brother in law filmed it, he's a pro.
the camera was a cannon XL1 pro camera, with 3 colour chip and interchangable lenses. about $10,000 worth. no bucket truck, but it was mounted on an expensive fluid head tripod.
The real skill is in the editing. If you check out the ISA TCC vid, he only had my crappy handycam, but managed to edit it into something decent.

Anyway, 1 handing? freeclimbing? snorting coke at the top? swigging jack daniels out of a hip flask? taking potshots at the public with a pistol?
all risky, but highly enjoyable. /forum/images/graemlins/pirate.gif /forum/images/graemlins/pbj.gif

Sorry mark, I was refering to coca-cola , not cocaine! /forum/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forum/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

thanks for sharing the camera specs and such - don't know if i'd ever be able to scrounge up such a good camera and video editor! i'll check out the other video later tonight. right off the bat it looked well produced :)

peace,

t
