Video Camera??

Bump this up as I'd like to hear about some good camera options.

Over the next year I'd like to start compiling video to make a small commercial to put on my website.

A gopro is one that I'm considering. I know a bit about them. What are some others that might be good for putting off to the side while doing a removal(time lapse video)?

Leafguy,

For tree climbing I prefer the Contour ROAM over the GoPRO. Overall I think the GoPro is a better camera, but the Contour has a better overall package/options.

For time lapse the Brinno TLC 200 series is the best option out there. Check out my channel www.youtube.com/user/bonner1040 all of the video there was shot with Contour ROAM cameras and the Brinno TLC 200.

Here is a link to some pretty extensive review and comparison I wrote regarding the Contour, GoPro, and other options.

If you want to just "put it off to the side" for time lapse....

"I have an app for that"

Iphone (or others OS's I'm sure) the Lapse It 2.1 Pro app works very well. Cost a couple of bucks I think.

I took this time lapse a while back.

video using Lapse It and a lower than available resolution

The large black spaces on each side are because at the time I did not understand that the iPhone will take HD 1080 but holding the phone vertically messes that up when you produce it. In other words you have a vertical picture to look at thru a horizontal viewer. 1080x1920 and 1080 viewer.
You can always tell how the person was holding their iPhone when they took the YouTube video.

I'm far from very knowledgeable about this though and just an armature with video.

The iPhone is a great device, dont get me wrong, but there is no way it can compare to the time lapse capability of the dedicated Brinno TLC 200.

You can take over 500,000 stills on one set of batteries, set an interval from 1/second to 1/month. Full 1080 resolution, optional wide angle modes and attachments, framerate adjustability, lighting, and so on.

The GoPro is a fantastic camera, but a black edition is $600+accessories, or 3x the cost of a contour. The contour mounts on the side of the helmet and ie much easier to turn on and off.

Great info guys, Thanks.

When creating a time lapse video, what is the typical picture interval you would use?

That Brinno TLC 200 seem to be a reasonably priced camera. Did you get any accessories with it?

Nice vids Bonner.

Thanks Leaf Guy.

I always use a 1 picture/second interval, but vary between a 5-30 frames/second framerate.

I use a generic knock off gorilla pod with the TLC200 and I purchased the optional wide angle lens.

Now there is a model with an integrated wide angle lens too.

... Full 1080 resolution,.......

Looks like a fun camera, I have not seen them before. Could make a cool wild life camera too.

On the resolution, I didn't see where it does HD video 1080, is there something I missed?

Thanks

is 1280/720 not above 1080? I may have misquoted..

Here is the original version (no wide angle lens included - need optional lens) This is what I have...Pretty good deal at $130 but I would definitely want the WA lens

Here is a new PRO model for $299 witha 720p HDR sensor

And the other new model, with built in wide angle lens, for $200. I have one of these as well, but never used it as its on loan.

Yes, cameras can be very confusing and marketers I think try to keep it that way. Understanding all that goes with cameras, videos, display devices, making videos from videos or stills, pixels, lines or resolution, dots per inch...etc etc etc is a HUGE subject and I wish I understood all there is to know.

I will just say when looking at these products be sure to do your best at comparing apples to apples and find something that fits YOUR specific needs.

iPhone 8 megapixels.
Go pro silver 11 megapixels.
Other cameras may be less (and that may be just what a person wants)

...I'm not saying which is better as more is not always better. IT ALL DEPENDS.......
it is all apples and oranges and grape fruit and.....
