Very Narrow columnar maple

I recently saw a few Maples in Sandusky Ohio which appeared to be Norways. They were about 40 feet tall and the whole crown was maybe 5 feet in diameter, all the way up. They are a nearly perfect cylinder shape. the first crotches are no more then 6 feet off the ground. The branches go nearly perfectly straight up. I found that there is an Acer platanoides "columnar", which has a crown diameter of 15 to 20 feet. These trees are nowhere near that wide. I could not get a photo of them, but I will try. Does anyone know exactly what they might be? Thanks fred

I know the tree you are talking about; we have a couple around the Providence area. They are skinnier than the regular columnar Norway, kinda ridiculous looking! I do not know what they are, but I know that they were grown years ago on our tree farm in Providence, so there may be some history... I will ask the former City Forester if they are a different cultivar.
