Crash

New member
For the most part I've been self employed since 1998. I recently joined a reputable tree service in hopes to learn and grow as an employee. The amount of work we can accomplish in a day is incredible. Our lead climber was born to be in trees and is a pleasure to work with (makes me want to work harder cause he makes it fun). One of the crew chiefs makes me want to puke when I see we're teamed up. His constant belittling wise ass remarks and just plain assholeness sucks. In the world of "tall trees tough men" it would feel good to scrap but thats probably what he wants and fightings not my thing. I don't mind working myself to exhaustion everyday, but leaving work angry and trying my hardest not to bring it home is a whole other exhaustion. I'm trying to be the better man but err. In the words of Popeye- "This is all I can stands. I can't stands no more."

Go over his head and tell the big boss you can't work with this particular crew chief anymore. If your boss doesn't take you seriously or tells you to man up then consider filing a harassment complaint. No room for hot heads in this industry.

Is this reputable company a national outfit? I always hate it when I see a crew leader with a bad attitude continue to hold that leadership position. If the company is serious about being reputable, you should be able to voice your concerns with someone in a management position and at least request to not work with the A-hole.

Harassment complaint?

EZ with a serious post?

What's happening??!!!!????:frenetico:
Hey Levi, just some young punk gettin off to a little bullying (won't let him bring me down.) I've been on the job for a couple months and he has been there for four years and is 8 years younger than me. I learned recently that one other person (I suspect more) walked off the job beacause of him. I also learned that he cries to the big boss about everything instead of talking to his coworkers. When it happens again I think I might say something like...If you disrespect me one more time there's going to be a problem. And hopefully that's not followed up with :boxeador:.. and then I be like :numberone: ;). I just want to be a better climber, not deal with this nonsense.

Don't sweat it man.

There's a guy in my town with a similar reputation.

He's probably worried you'll take his job.

This is what I think. There are also people out there that are just not nice people. I think you should come up with a good nickname for the guy and start using it all the time. One that pokes mild fun at some feature of his looks or personality that is really obvious and that everyone can relate to. If you are any good verbally, every time he makes a belittling comment, come right back with one of your own. Fair is fair; if it's ok for him to do it to you, it better be ok for you to do it to him. Otherwise he's a big whiner. I think a guy like that does not respect a person who takes an infinite amount of crap from someone. All of this advice comes after trying to go through proper channels to try to avoid being scheduled to work with him in the first place.

Management may have no clue that they have a supervisor that is causing such problems, because the only side of the story that they ever hear is his. In my opinion, this guy is no leader, and deserves to lose the position to a better man and be busted back to being just another member on a crew, if that. That is all.

Thanks Tim, much appreciated.

We do high risk work, which requires ALL of our attention and diligence. Anybody on the site who is making things intentionally rough for their co-workers is diluting their concentration and putting them and the entire crew at increased risk of accident/injury/property damage. When I most feel like having an "Oh for &^%$$ sake!!!" moment, is when I make myself slow down, and think about how to best inject a conversation into the mix, without compromising safety.

For those kinda folks i like the phrase
" whatever makes you feel good about yourself " , if they're at least as sharp as a set of lefty safety scissors at preschoolers garage sale they'll get it. If they don't its at least a reminder to me that i don't need to bunch up my good set of panties.
If you can outwit the bully it's usually easy to get others on board and turn the tables. It's likely going to be hysterical when he can't take. Last parts probably bad advice but i ain't a rocket surgeon

I was torn. I wanted to make a big joke out of this, like I do. But then, I work at a place where bad attitudes are not tolerated, especially at the crew leader position.

Maybe a better course of action is the passive aggressive route. You know, save up your pube trimmings, and leave them strategically in his climbing gear. Nothing like sweat and another man's pubes on you in the middle of a big removal.

Better?

Tim,
Worked in the woods one summer, got hired on as a skidder operator until i ran over a stob and popped a tire. Got moved to the ateam but demoted to choker setter. I liked wearing atlas blues but everyone else wore logger cottons. One of our fallers asked why I wore em and i said cause they fit better and I liked the feel. His response was that's same reason he worked in women's lace
