Uni mod

I didn't like the way the Uni would flop around with the carabiner in certain situations. So I took an idea from the Pirana and filled in the empty space with a hard rubber block. Now with the carabiner slipped into place, it stays put.

That's exactly what I've been thinking of doing. Instead of a block I was thinking of getting a piece of the epoxy putty and molding it into the slot.

Adding a tubing sleeve with the diameter of a biner might work. then I'd make another insert that would fit the shackle that I'm using now.

Clever solution!

I've talked with Morgan about just milling a hole instead of a slot. The slot does reduce the weight a few ounces but I wonder if that even makes a difference.

Couldn't you also fill the slot with silicone and drill the silicone for the size hole you need???

That's too easy rich. It needs to be some kind of test of skill on here. Please keep that in mind next time.

Ed, I'm still waiting for you to put those silicone inserts on my uni. After all, you are the one that suggested it to me and I know you didn't think that I had the know how to do it.

I'll buy the beer and equipment......

lol, Ya I seem to know alot of tricks huh? It's a pet peave I have to get or see it, and come up with some ideas to make it of better use.

Tom, glad you noticed the need also. Obviously, there are probably a bazillion different ways of fixing this but I happened to use what I had on hand. A small piece of rubber stall mat that I shaped with a grinder to fit the open space. Made it a snug fit with some grooves. You can get the carabiner in and out but it is a nice snug fit. Which is what I wanted. To my way of thinking this is better than milling a hole, because the carabiner would still be loose.

Very similar to the fitting on the Pirana.

I'm showing pretty good wear on my top descender "rung" already. Who's got a fix for that? (ed, here's where you chime in and tell me you will mod it for me and show me how to use power tools and such.

I wasn't knocking ya Dave. It's a great fix. I was thinking of a way to help out with the wear on it for FT. Pretty sure I on to something with it too. I either have to meet up and do it for him or he'll have to do it himself and we could get feed back on it.

Always try a hammer first.

I like the idea of the rubber fitted in, kinda like a bushing. I will check at a friends auto parts place there is probably one that would fit.
