I bring out the caution tape if I feel the area has a lot of unpredictability or blind spots.

Caution Tape is a damn good idea, we got stacks and stacks of cones and all kinds of different signs but sometimes just roping off a area with tape would be the proper message to send the general public.
Dont get the wrong idea Syeblue, Im no elitist, I have dealt with just as many ignorant morons as the next guy, and have felt like throttling some of them, and on the odd occasion I have told a guy where he could shove it.... but come the end of the day, I want too work to affect the image of the tree trimmer, or more proper 'the Arborist' in a positive light.
We have had enough bad publicity over the years, time for people to afford this job and career, this billion dollar industry for petes sake the RESPECT it rightly deserves.
I, and a lot of you I am sure, lay our life on the line every day, so what if I/we love it, thats MY/OUR BONUS.
Ive watched it change a lot in the past ten fifteen years, so its only getting better, the wages are coming up, no where near what we deserve right, unless you work for yourself, but its getting better.
Take care all and stay safe,

I've had people who just lift the caution tape and walk right into the killzone. Now I have my groundman pile the first few branches strategically at likely points of entry just inside my coned or taped perimeter. This at least slows down the most determined (stupid) ones, usually people with no stake in the situation demanding what right we have to be working.

Does no good to scream at people though, be they do-gooders or just plain idiots. As others have said here, when you lose it, you lose.

I was just about to rig out a beefy stub when an intruder came inside my cones and walked up to my groundman, I shut off my saw, called down "What's up, buddy?"

My groundman looked at the guy, looked back up to me and called up, "Appears to be some civilian sucking around for a disability claim. Ready on Rope!"

I had a silly big grin the rest of the day.

I was working at Middle Barry collage last year and watched a kid walk right into my climbing line. One kid out of hundreds asked if she could walk by. I saw them walking past the cones an d under the bucket with 2 guys on the ground trying to stand guard.

My father once told me the saddest day of his life was informing a mother that her child had been killed in an accident that involved a small branch stub that landed on his head. The child had been escorted off the job site but came back to watch the tree man. The stub skipped off a limb and headed straight for the young lad. Sad story.
Kids will be kids.
This happened over forty years ago and it is as it happened yesterday.
