I think this has been mentioned before but the new Dirrs Tree and Shrub ap is amazing. Its ease of search and better quality images then the actual book make it totally worth the 15 dollars. If you don't already have the book don't buy it, just get the app.

I also recently downloaded Square which allows me to take credit cards from the phone. Its super easy to use and the funds are deposited into your account at the end of every day. Im hoping this will make it easier for me to get paid from reluctant customers.

Tell me a little more about this square. Do you need a new account or does it go into your current bank account? What are the fees for using it?

Chris

I thought you were not allowed,by law, to back charge the customer. At least that was my understanding with Visa and Mc and at 4% with them.

Thanks for the info into Square! Just got it set up and can't wait to try it. I don't get a lot of CC payment requests, but since it's free now at least I can advertise that I accept CC. That might just be the difference in getting a job or not...

I'm also going to get that app.

If we weren't staring at obamacare I'd say that such a law was an urban legend but perhaps it is real.

Actually the # 1 reason back charging is "illegal" is not because of any law rather the agreement the vendor has with the bank who processes the cards. Basically the banks have said "no back charging or we will not let you process cards through us." it is the bank's way of remaining competitive. Afterall, remember when most gas stations ahd cash and credit buttons? How many folks went to stations that didn't charge the difference?

How many businesses sucked up the 3% cc fees and got more customers in the process?

What ended up happening is businesses ended up building that 3% into their pricing across the board so that cash or credit the customers are paying part of that fee. It is not an after charge any more but a cost point in their cost accounting.

Still, cash discounts are always a good marketing tool. I'd say screw the banks bring back the cash discount!

Can you tell us more? Like what platforms, and where to buy?

I have the android platform (verizon). I used square for the first time the last week. I took the payment Thursday night and received the funds in my account by Tueday night, so about a three day turnaround. I just went to the adroid market and searched square, read the reviews and decided it would be the best to use as there is no monthly fee, only a transaction fee. For me the google maps is what I use most often.

Google Check out is better for credit card transactions, IMO.

---You can e-mail a bill and assure the customer you don't see or know their personal information.

---They charge 2.9% (I think)

---The best quality is you get your money in 2 business days. That's not bad at all.

I use Google maps every day. It's change the way we used to operate with printed maps. Saved alot of paper too.

In my merchant contract there is language stating that is a violation of the contract to charge the customer for the interest.

How well do those of you who own the Dirr app like it so far? I'd like current opinions. Also, does any1 have more suggestions for apps downloadable for Apple products?

Joe

knot guide is handy.

Leafsnap seams like a cool idea but has not worked that well the few times I tried it. You just take a photo of a leaf you want to id, it taps into the database and bam a list of trees it could be. So far it has not got one right as the first choice but it is usually in the top few.

Also> Tetris

Just to share a opinion of the square, it is perfect. So easy to use and you give your customers another option. I use my paypal account for the people that are against swiping their card on my phone.

I used an app called GoPayment with intuit payroll, It's around 1.9 percent, I use it with the iPhone. It goes right into the business account the following business day. I do believe it's $9.95/mo...

I do still need to try dirrs though
