It would be a matter of quality of content. Not just production but the real content. Sure there's a ton of free stuff out there but that is in itself the problem the volume one needs to sift through to find that which is good.

It's an idea worth pursuing in more detail, IMHO.

No doubt! This economy stinks! You would think that with all the DOD money here in Tidewater, VA, that we would be insulated; but I find most of my customers scrutinizing every penny they spend.

That $5/month has to come out of our customers--the end consumer.
I'm just an employee I do all this buzzing on my own time and dime. There is no passing the buck on to anyone.

Is the point to have an exclusive group or to make the buzz a business or cover costs that the ads don't cover or are you needing funds to expand or pay experts for there videos or why is my question.

My other thought is the buzz is great because of the interactions between everyone. If you have experts doing the movies will they be around for q&a?
If you go with X's idea and use the locals we know they'd be around to explain/ defend there decisions.

If I am paying I'd want the movie star around to dialogue with or it wouldn't be any better than YouTube. That's why I come here instead if you take away the learning it would be a bummer.

Last note is everyone here knows the buzz is top notch but some new guy just getting started may not pony up the dough if he doesn't know what the site offers. It may slow the numbers of new members that flock here.

That's my 2cents

Sorry. Actually discussing developing all new content that will only be viewable here and with a membership simply for that purpose. The membership would pay for creating this content. I'm just testing the water to see if there's interest.
Who do you have in mind for making the videos?
how many videos?
how regularly will there be new footage?
videos are good but to hold this audience captive it would have to be fairly technical and in depth, many of the members here are kind of elite and beyond the basics of: this is is a proper 3 cut method, this is how to tie a bowline, etc.

Mark, if you want to go ALL OUT, give live video feed from key people every week. No BS, no editing. I'll take every Tuesday.
Riggs takes Wednesday, August takes Thursday. Ace tree takes friday. Stihlmadd takes monday. EVERY WEEK.

If you won't do it, I will.

Live feed. Real work. Real good or real mistakes. All is shown.

Previous recorded episodes for a small price for those that miss it.

This is a cool idea but if you work 10 hours a day and there's no editing it would take you the next 10 hours to watch your day. I can do the whole 2-4 hours of sleep thing for a couple days at most and I'm not sure how the wives would feel lol

It would need to be an EXTRA paying section.

Buzz Gold:

Gets you never seen before proffessional videos also videos you would normally pay for, like Jerry Beraneks working climber dvd series (Jer would have to agree still and he gets a portion of every subscriber). plus the pros have to respond to questions and coments within two weeks). Subscribers can watch all videos and as many times as they like while subscribed. Small fee.

For good marketing interest, you could have the commentary on the regular forum Mark and viewers would get curious to the Gold membership due to the commentary.

So then you just pay for the video section? I hope there would be a yearly subscription price to fishing out the cc info every month would make a lot more non-productive time when I should be buzzing.
For all of you worrying about a fee give it to your tax guy as training costs or advertising or what ever your tax man(bookkeeper) says is best

It's actually an idea presented to me by a TV guy. TreeBuzz like it is will not change. The sponsors (thank them when you can) see the value of paying to keep it running. This new idea is separate.

What it is I don't know yet. It's an idea. To fill a possible void where there is no content like this yet. Like a show about the ITCC for example. This would take money to make it worth watching more than a YouTube video. Commentary, editing, multiple cameras...All takes money. Maybe a reality show about tree companies like we would like to watch, not like the normal stuff we have seen. These are "content" ideas that are not available and not going to happen for free.

If the videos on YouTube, TreeBuzz and other sites is enough, then a subscription like Netflix is not needed. If you'd like to see more developed, then vote that you would pay something to see that produced.

I'm not offended at all. It's just a question and it may shape what happens in the future around our industry, that's all. :)

I like Marks description, ...ideas that are not avail. and not going to happen for free...see more developed.... I would like to have that available and if it involves learning I am willing to pay even more for that.

And I like the sound of what Xman is pointing toward above. We have a lot of top end pros that would be willing to put content together and share it if it were properly valued and respected I would bet.

the thing is, time is very important in our busy business life. IF we are going to invest time in something, unfortunately, we need to be compensated for it for our families well-being. IF we don't do it for compensation, we are being selfish.

I have almost 4 terabytes of gopro footage stored of interesting tree jobs. I REALLY want to edit into videos, but there is always more important things to be doing.

Mark is talking about something different now; but if I could be compensated for editing and producing video from what I have stored, then I could justify the time to do it.

I really WANT to do it. But I can't justify the time I would need, because it isn't for income at the moment.

Now, to what Mark recently stated.

WOW, that would be nice. I WOULD pay for THAT !
Reality TV, but not created or staged drama. A TV program that gives lots of professional information.
IF a show wanted drama, just add a few hacks to the group and don't manipulate anything, the drama will happen.

I hate what reality TV has become. It's all staged, fake crap.

I would pay to see something good.
