Turn over on the Buzz

Yeah, turnover on forums is very common, as is, threads going off topic, belligerent posts and rants. Nature of the beast. It can't be stopped. What I feel is the only way to keep the forum as we wish it is to maintain our level of professional communication. Maybe a "Read Twice Click Once" approach to posting. When someone goes off on another poster or derides them maybe taking a page from Tom's suggestion but instead of ignoring just post "inappropriate comment".

I try to keep my posts professional and on point. The key word here is try.

FT, I'll challenge you to a I.C. championship throwdown!

I don't come here as much as I used to. I don't mind reading a lil poke between friends, but the out-right vulgar attacks and name calling, I don't relish.

There doesn't seem to be mutual respect amongst peers. It's more like "oh look at me". I don't need to duke it out with some newbie "know-it-all", so I lurk. I do take the odd poke at friends I have made here, but we both know it all in fun!

As far as sites go, they all build to a roar and then they begin to whimper when all the interests are realized. Then they redefine themselves by what the new members want to discuss.

I been around the track a few times, but the changes in the industry make me try and stay current with whats out there. Ha, My ego isn't so big I can't learn, and I'm 52! LOL

I don't ask questions here anymore. Too much static and testosterone flying around. Instead I text or call one of the many friends I've made here on the buzz. It's unfortunate because a lot of people can learn from one persons questions.

Hey family tree. (I'm being respectful in my post here btw, for real)

Review your history. Did you really get crap for asking questions? That's hard to believe. If you did, that's terrible. Because I think almost everyone on treebuzz respects questions and would not attack someone for asking a question.

I think people get attacked when they boast or post something about something "great" they did.

Like when I came here in 2004. (I was told of the site after visiting California and climbing some redwoods.)

I got back to Maryland and checked out treebuzz right away, I had no idea arborist had a forum, I didn't even know of the word forum on the internet.

Anyway, shortly after joining, I posted pictures and description of a cabling job I was proud of that I had recently completed.

A current member or two tore me up, (in my opinion). Pointing out anything they could see wrong with my job.

It really pissed me off. I was sharing something I was proud of and they were trying to tear it down.

Sawdust was one of the users name that was the main one. I don't know if he is still on here.

I was so pissed, that if I knew where he lived I probably would have gone to his house to have a talk with him.

So, the next best thing I could do to get out my anger, was to go off in text and attack him.

I probably should have been threatened of being banned because of some of the stuff I said to him, but maybe since I was a new user, they let me fight back nasty if I wanted.

After cooling down (maybe a week or two), I realised it's just words man, just typed words. Big deal, no reason to get all worked up. Since then, I have gotten worked up a few times, but I let it go pretty fast. EZ got me once pretty good once; pushed my buttons.

Anyway, my point is. I don't see treebuzz getting worse.

I think it's about the same.

If you post pictures or jobs with the image of "how great I am", you will be put in your place if you aren't so great.

I think questions are always answered. I asked many questions over the years, very simple basic ones too. Being the owner and only climber in my company for years, I never got introduced to anything new from another climber; but tree buzz is where I would ask things and learn things.

I'd ask stuff like, you guys keep saying SRT, what is SRT?

I don't remember anyone ever laughing at a question, no matter how basic it seemed.

Family Tree, I remember one big bashing of you and that's when you said you just took down 3 of New Jersey's tallest tulip trees, or something close to that.

I hope no users are afraid of asking questions, you should not be, really.

Can´t remember anything bad from posting on the buzz, and if there were - its lik X says - just words. Trolls will occur in every forum, to me anyone acting like one just reveals their lack of social and professional abilities. No question is too stupid to be asked but many answers are too stupid to be posted.
