TRUNK BELAY

How' this? I wanted to incorporate wraps instead of a device so that a knotted end could be used, the rescuer could walk out to wherever the victim is being lowered and there is the possibility of friction catching the descent if the line was fumbled or dropped.

There is a big concern with that system. You are sideloading a carabiner against the trunk, on your trunk wrap. I'm surprised that they didn't DQ you for that in A.R.

How about taking out the biner and simply choking the trunk with the large spliced eye and doing everything else as shown in the vid? Any problems with the rest of the set up?
Im new to this style of climbing.

That would work. I like the simplicity of the set up. I liked how you locked off the rescue 8. Never seen it like that before, very nice. Do you climb with that system regularly? (the floating false crotch)

I really need to set up a video or pictures of my trunk belay.

I'd say it looks pretty good. Minus the issues stated above. I would give you brownie points if you where explaining to me how things worked while you set it up like I was the EMT just in case something happened to you.

Softbanks, I started my own thread down in the vid section. Sorry for the derail
Back on topic...how do you work that system. I am pretty dense and cant seem to figure it out. As Grover said...it could confuse people like me :)

Jesse, at Castaic the AR trunk belay was already set-up with a figure-8 for those planning on anchoring into the bottom of the tree.
What about tying the anchor like you would a porty for a rigging scenario?

It does look a bit confusing but for my groundie NO as he designed it. We were talking about climbing with ONLY WRAPS on the trunk and it would be feasable although mighty dumb at the same time. Yellow prussik is the first back up and maillon sits in an ALPINE BUTTERFLY, second back up is a munter with half-hitch.
He pulls down on the prussik to give slack and then removes it and then slips off the munter and away I go.

I climb with a Unicender. In frog walker mode.
