Trouble with Up Equips 87-48

New to treebuzz but been in the business 30 years. Approximately 16 months ago I purchased a new 87-48 from the guys at Up Equips and have been having problem after problem most which stemming from drive train issues do to not heavy enough chassis design 10-12 repairs on track tension cylinders ,new bearings race and shafts in idler wheels, shafts I had to have made by machine shop because in the USA you don’t go to the local hardware or auto part store and buy a 30 mm shaft. These problems all started in days of delivery and none of which I have been reimbursed. Not to mention all the down time. There have been numerous other problems as well and if anyone would like the list feel free to contact me. Mechanic from Up Equips was down a year ago and we helped with installation of new chassis parts at no charge and helped having some new things made at local machine shop, again you just don’t go buy these things at the store. Within months we were right back to same problem.

Need to finish, temporarily fixed problem to get through summer 2018,Up Equips wanted me to send back in my busy season ( not happening) 16 months after purchasing still not fixed now want me to bring back to Canada, don’t think I should be responsible for transportation.
Moral of this story do lots and lots of homework so you don’t end up with a 130,000 dollar yard ornament this may bite me in the butt with our friends to the north but may save someone else a lot of headaches .buy your equipment in the USA because legal action in another country isn’t gonna be easy

Wow thanks for the knowledge hope the best to you WOW!

Thanks asked for a new machine or refund and was told not gonna happen,I hope that the folks out there thinking of a life changing purchase especially to a small company like mine sees post like this and others before taking the plunge
We are a small company also and I’ve been looking into a large backyard machine we have a Nifty 34tn which has a 40ft working height going on 3 years in March and it’s been perfect (for what it is it’s nice because it will go through a 32 in opening) but met Leo the last 2 years at the TCIA shows but $180,000 for a 83HD+ and a F550 w v10 is the biggest investment for us especially when you purchase a rear elevator for cheaper but but I can see nothing but advantages of the all access besides it not being dielectrical I have even called a few company’s and asked their opinions almost all positive but the earlier models had some issues but seems like they have fixed them but your situation scares the shit out of me that kind of investment could make or brake a small company and makes me not want to sell my boom truck until owning a machine for a few months Thanks again for all the knowledge!!!!

There are always some arguments between members of a family. We consider Pa tree guy as a family member and that is very disappointing to read this post, but not surprising: Pa Tree guy has threatened yesterday morning to do so, and now it is here... So be it. You’re right though: you have an issue with the your unit.

According to our records though, the problems that occurred with the unit for the first 10 months were related with the tensioning system on which we sent 2 cylinders during that period. Also, we proceeded with a factory recall on the extension tracks system upon which we talked face to face at TCI Expo in Columbus, November 2017. This problem has also been identified on 3 units and yours was one of them. Aside from that, we have a clean record from June 2017 to beginning of April 2018.
  • Early April 2018
  • you called in reporting a problem and from then until end of May 2018, we had non-productive tentative to receive crucial information for almost 2 months.
  • Beginning June 2018
  • After reception of proper data/pictures/information from you, we submitted a hypothesis that require confirmation. We offered you to go pick your unit at our own expense, and do the job on fast track so you can have it back as soon as possible.
  • You declined the offer because it was the beginning of your season, and you told us you were considering to perform the repairs yourself.
  • We then warned you that we MUST have an estimate PRIOR to execution AND a conversation with whom would do this because there are electric components that may get damaged if welding isn’t done properly. Then zip…
  • Mid-June 2018
  • We received an email from you saying job was done, that it would get you by for your season and that you’d send us pictures. (As of today January 2019, we still haven’t received any pictures, estimate or any details of the completed work on your unit)
  • Then nothing, until End of October 2018
  • We receive a call that an electric component has failed. Even if it’s not covered anymore by the 1 year unlimited hours warranty, we told you we’d do our best to claim it none the less but you first needed to pay the component to get it.
  • You call 1 week after asking where is the part, not sent because not paid. After you found payment email, said you had problems with bank and we said: “Ok we trust you: we are sending the part and the return label and know you will pay us when your problems will be solved”. And we sent the part. Then, zip…
  • End of December
  • You reply to a Merry Xmas email sent to all the Family that YOU would like to bring the unit in to get the issue resolved once and for all as you are not satisfied of the repairs you’ve made. After review with Accounting, we reply that as soon as outstanding balance is paid, we will schedule an appointment because the component wasn’t paid still…
  • This week and yesterday
  • After a few exchanges of emails, the promise you make that you will go out public and make a mission of speak the truth about all the problems you had, and that your mission has started.
This is by the way something to expect from ANY piece of equipment you use. Should you have ever been promised you will not have issues, red flag…

Even though we think / believe / KNOW that we get the very best product out there, we never promised anyone that they would not have issues or problems. Our promise is that as a member of our family, we will be there for you when the problem will arise. Most of our family members / owners can testify that this is how we handle / have always handled / will always handle issues.

So, Pa tree guy: When can we expect payment and when are you bringing your unit here?

Merci!

This is why one reason I love this site and enjoy that manufactures are able to tell their side of the story and defend their self Vena’s Nursery answers all comments made toward us also right or wrong but much respect to U.P Equipment and All Access Equipment for responding back to their customers on a public forum excellent customer service!!!!!!!

Bad situation all around. Small business makes a significant purchase and something goes wrong. Can wipe you off the map if not careful.
Anyway, my two cents...if UP Equip did offer to pick up in PA, repair (hopefully proper and final) and return (not clear on their response) then not too much more you can expect.

One main reason I haven't pulled the trigger on a track lift yet. See to have so many problems for such a high priced item.

Sticking with my Terex 60/70 rear mount and SRT assent for backyard stuff..

I don’t trust any of these tracked lifts regardless of make. I regard them as bridge Diesel engines when emission standards went up. Everyone faking it till they make it. I’m sure UP LIFTS are all around good, otherwise they wouldn’t sell any.

This reminds me of a guy I met at shelter tree and I started up a conversation about tracked lifts. He owned one that he freighted out to Hawaii when he moved out there for a time. He said the computer kept frying from the humidity. Not rain, humidity. He had to change out rice packets every week to keep the moisture down.

Just so many things to put into a tiny unit that is in charge of your life.

I've been using a Wraptor as well for years!!! Feel guilty and puts a few pounds on, but great when multiple climbs or going to a hockey game the night before!!

Every repair I have made on this machine I made out of necessity to pay the payments if I relied on Up Equips to fix problems I would have 10 hours on meter instead of 600 plus, not really that much for 16 months and should not have to work on machine as much as I have ,I have bought used equipment from landmark machinery that I’ve only done routine maintenance on in 5 years that great ,thanks Todd bean at landmark.
Up Equips service department is pretty good if you as an owner are mechanically and electronically inclined luckily I am both , and was told by one of there people you sound like a pretty smart guy I think you can handle it not something you really want to hear after a 130,000 dollar investment
I owe UPequip for a very very expensive sensor that was a couple of months out of warranty but have been fighting it for months overiding it to make it work did not know until talking to other guys with same problem
So Up Equips come get it give me a new machine or give me my money back,we’ll call all my labor and down time even on the sensor

Is the lift you have a relatively new design compared to the other lifts that UP Equip sells?? I’ve heard good things about some of their other tracked lifts.
Hopefully they will work out the problems with that model.

I hope you get the issue resolved once and for all.
That is a large sum of money to pay for a machine that isn’t making you money full time

I do believe this lift is a newer design. I have had the 60 foot lift for 4 years now and have had little down time. I know of a member here that has the 70 and is happy with it as well.

The guys at Up have always been good to me, even answering on a Sunday once to help me troubleshoot. I've never had to bring the machine back for anything except yearly inspections, all the minor problems we've had we were able to fix over the phone.

Always answered phone when I called but I want to know how many times do you have to fix a new machine and why 130 grand I was hoping i wouldn’t have to touch it till it was paid for but nope worked on 3 times before made first payment should have known then it was gonna be a turd. But you just hate to give up when you spend that kind of money and 1 day you hope it was worth the risk but with each day hope fades away, anywho nice low hour turd could be for sale ANY TAKERS how bout you folks at UPequip
