tried out some new tools

If you want waterproof/repellant get some NikWax product to slather on. There isn't often that I've cared much one way or the other for waterproofness in my workboots during the summer. Trail hiking is different though.

Nice. I almost bought those a month ago. Went with another approach style shoe, the sportive boulder x. Love the almost flat sole and direct feel. Would be interested in how long those last, as they are reasonably priced!

Thanks Tom, I'll check that stuff out.

I got them on sale for $55, not sure how they will hold up but nice grip and soft flat sole makes pruning better for me.

I just went through 3 pairs of merrells in rotation ( happen to give them to my groundie's brother today who does landscaping as they still had some life ), the vibram soles are beautifully designed and grippy, made footlocking super because of the relative flat sole although funnily I don't find footlocking difficult even with my healed goretex redwings. I am now into goretex salomon but are pricey. I will say that merrell's are good value for money and comfy on prunes.
