Nice work Ryan! were those doug. fir? Tight area for the crane too! Yeah, why were ya' late gettin' home? (if i had a dollar for every time i heard that!)

Mike-

Those were doug fir. That house was designed by an architect who designed around the trees and the builder did a good job of limiting impact on the trees. My theory about what made that tree go over is that the section of the house right at the base of that tree was a later addition and that contractor didn't do as good of a job at preventing damage.

One thing that was really funny about that job is the City of Lake Oswego where the job was located tried to fine the homeowner for taking down the tree that was hit by the tree and also the tree that was standing right at the base of the leaning tree. That second tree had it's root system comprimised by the other failure and needed to come down so we could get the crane in there to work. That city's tree ordinances are a joke. They talk alot but then when it comes down to it all they want is more million dollar houses built everywhere and the trees don't really matter.

Anybody want to guess what the insurance company was billed for that one?

Ryan, great job.

From pic #32, it looks like you rigged the first piece below the contact point off a third tree; from #20, it looks like it was off the tree it was leaning against. Did you use both? Was the crane supporting the leaning tree below the cut?

Did you have any big surprises?

Nice Job.

There is no way I'd live in house that close to such trees, let alone buy one (like I could afford to do either anyway
