TreeStuff used to be great!

Hey Hsell, I have called plenty of times for various reasons.

If you would like to prove me wrong, please do so. Call and get Pfanner back in stock this week, as well as APTA and dynaglide.

Make the change you want to see, don’t just suggest it!

Not that it will get it in stock, but ts immediately sent out an email about the pfanner shortage when they received their last resupply. Something along the lines of "if you need it buy it now." They cannot control pfanner production.

I guess I should count my blessings that I haven't had these problems that others have, and they are my main supplier. Being in Cincinnati, things tend to show up quickly from Indianapolis from any of the carriers. Only ever ordered one thing that said it was in stock, then wasn't when the order shipped... chit happens.

I do understand the frustration of waiting for Pfanner items to be in stock. I love the StretchFlex gloves and it seems like they are never in stock. They just showed up again recently, so I took it upon myself to order two dozen. Even though I still had several pair in stock from my last dozen because I was being so stingy with them in fear of running out. Its obviously a popular product and doesn't stay in stock long. I know this so I see it as my responsibility to plan ahead as best I can.

Beyond that they've always treated me well. I've ordered a couple things from Wesspur and Sherrill due to availability at the time. It sucked for me having to wait longer simply due to my proximity to the store. So I'll keep loving me some treestuff as it helps to satisfy my desire for instant gratification. I will also cross my fingers and hope I never have to deal with any of the frustrations others seem to be experiencing.

That's what I'm saying though.. If a online retail business is functioning & making the correct decisions.. proximity to their location should really only make a difference if a day or two.. Tree Stuff can reach 99% if their orders destinations in 1-3 days.. (1-2 day difference included in that).. it's the Sherril's, Bailey's, Wespurs that take a full 5 business days to get to you & charge the full boat in doing so.. This day in age it's just too long.. Yeah 20yrs ago that was quick.. & so was snail mail catalog ordering at one point. Amazon's free 2 day was revolutionary in the start but its now the standard i expect.. In the beginning i used Amazon for the bargains & once the free 2 day came out, it got to a point where i didn't even look at the prices anymore, i just bought because of how quick i could get it.. however i may have been paying a tad more but that was a compromise with the turnaround time being the attraction.. But.. When a place is selling at full retail, charging an arm & leg to ship, as well as talking forever to get me a product... I choose to avoid that place at all cost.. they drop right off my radar. For example, i don't even look at Bailey's anymore just because i know they are on the West coast & would charge $40-$70 for a 2 day ship, as well as full retail. I mean shit.. their the only place I've ever seen a Flipline retail at $599!!!!! Seriously.. 599?? Who does that.. What can 3/4" cordage really cost.. $5 a foot?? What's that 12ft x $5 =60
Couple splices..$40.. A steel snap $30 Max.. What's an adjuster.. 150$ Max full retail.. Chafe guard $10??..
What's that.. $310 at a fairly large markup.. So WTF is 599?? Greed?

I've been pretty happy with Bartlett.
I been meaning to try them out.. i like how they do blog posting with more interest than just trying to sell a particular product.. They also explain some of their product differences at the beginning of certain website sections. Which was actually pretty helpful to me before i really knew what the differences in climbing ropes were.

With that said.. I've built a few carts in their site, but in end have always felt they were just as expensive as the Bailey's of the world.. That & I wasn't aware of any coupon codes from them to balance the price points out..

If I get the order in before 3pm it ships that day. No reason the rest of these outfits can't do the same.

& That's what I'm basically saying.. there's no reason these other outfits can't..

I personally think it has to do with their profit margin.. they just don't want to hire the extra help to push the product out fast enough.. 10-15yrs ago it was ok because that's just how long everything took, you could blend a few extra days in there & have it not be noticed because it's already taking a week & you got two weekend days in there... But the standards have changed & some aren't willing to flex with the times or just don't know how provide these things to a customer base without incuring a profit loss.

I hope none of our potential customers see this thread. Next they'll be expecting jobs to be complete in 2 days or less, cheaper prices, and discounts just bc they said the word "arborist" during the bid.

Hahahaha.. i hope not!! Well all be screwed! Just don't let them know about the super secret "arborist" discount code we give to freinds & family..lol.

I got that email too and immediately ordered. Now waiting again. I know they cannot control Pfanner production, but again, it’s the wide array of things out of stock as well. It just feels like Sherrill screwed them all up, made them less dependable, more corporate, and are likely trying to sink the TS brand altogether. Sucks.

Fuck the customers.Their just gonna have to be patient, and pay full price like the rest of the mere mortals.
We are the chosen ones. The danger-seeking, well-endowed, super special treemen/arborists of the world.
It's certainly not our fault that we need that $133 multi colored, self advancing, super-fly carabiner delivered across the country for free in 24 hours. If that shit don't show up on time it will be damn near impossible for us to handle that 31 ft Ash removal by Wednesday. Sorry ma'am
If we don't get what we want, when we want it, we might be forced to start a 1376 page thread whining about it on the inter web.
We are the chosen ones after all?

I'm so tickled by this that my cheeks hurt.

Keep after it, Nick. One day everyone will stop being so hard on you and you will have earned everything you have to show for it.
Treestuff doesn't have the money to pay me to do what you do, and I think I'm pretty used to catching hell on the internet.
Nobody is being hard on him. Its totally on point. Its not what it was for whatever reasons. I wont share my explanation since its already been said time and time again by not just me. Everyone has their own customer experience. Shop where you feel good about the purchase. That's what I do. I put my money with a company who gives a shit about me

I got no beef with Treestuff with the exception of Sherrill mistakes, like order mix-ups, taking 5 plus days for an order that should take 2 or being out of stock & not relaying that to TS to relay to customer..

I have to admit, i don't like ordering rope through TS, just for the fact that Sherril is involved. It just takes forever when other much quicker, cheaper, options are available..

After ordering something from TS only to find out 4 or 5 days later it was out of stock with a waiting game being played on when it will be back in stock on the NC end, i spoke with TS & they were more than helpful, offered compensation, credit, etc.. I finally received the edited order & one of the ropes is the wrong kind & another is different than what i was told it was going to be.. Again i called up, got compensated, no problem, everyone was kind & helpful as usual.. I still don't have it & it's rounding two weeks since original order..

I'll tell you what though..
Monday i decided i needed some Cordage & for odds & ends for rigging tools.. I realized GAP has free ship on everything, has better pricing on per ft cordage.. some stuff about 20 cents..(I won't say that as a blanket statement across the board but what i wanted was significantly less expensive). I also called up & asked if they also had a discount code & indeed they did.. 15%!! Nice..!!

So.. Free Ship on everything... Better original pricing.. + another 15% off?? Yeah.. I'm sold.. I put my order in Monday & all my Cordage was here yesterday...

Im not trying to knock TS because they have been more than fair with me, but whenever Sherril is going to be involved i cringe & hesitate just out of spite because of the extra time the Cordage takes.. Like i was saying.. i always would avoid it..

But Gap.. imma be going there for my Cordage.. it's a no brainier.

Oh.. btw.. they stuffed the box with an extra 10ft of 10mm OP. Mistake or not..idk..i just know it wasn't short, the wrong cord, not as i was told or out of stock..

Holler at Ray.. guy will stop what he's doing, not hang up until your good & get your order out same day..

Are you able to share the GAP 15% off discount code? That would be a really compelling advantage if it was available all the time, and their prices were otherwise the same. Thanks.

Ummm.. I'm not sure sure Timbr.. just so i don't get anyone all excited.. I'm pretty sure the 15% was to compete or match the current Jambo5 Tree Stuff coupon.. I could be wrong thought.. I can call & ask Ray if he's cool with it.. I'm pretty sure if you called yourself he'd give you it. They just recently opened up a dedicated Arb location so the number is different, but if you call the normal by Gap Power # they'll transfer you or provide correct... IDK why the code wasn't posted anywhere... All i do know is it's rather ironic I'm talking to you about pricing as me & him spoke at length about industry pricing, insane markups, shipping, etc, on everything ARB related for a good hour or so on wed when i called for some advice on something...

Scenarios like putting in $3,000 order only to realize the more expensive items could have been had for almost half the cost elsewhere & at the competitors normal retail pricing.. Some will call me crazy & say I'm exaggerating, but all you have to do is think outside the box a bit & you'll find what I'm talking about... It's not some secret wholesale site either.

Ha, that's pretty funny and on point!

I hate discounts, there's no free lunch. I give friend discounts for tree work sparingly, I dislike when "friends" expect a discount, after all I have to make a living.

Speaking of discounts, TreeStuff was launched brilliantly by Luke, truly in the model of modern "disruptive" business practices. Think Amazon, Uber etc. The problem is that burning so brightly as a startup is not long-term sustainable, Sherrill's acquisition was a natural conclusion. In tech industries an ambitious startup's best chance for success is to work for nearly nothing for a few years and then be acquired by a giant tech company. The founders of the startup then pay off their original investors, take a huge breather, buy a nice house etc. and continue on to their next project ;-) Kudus to Luke for making that happen, I'm jut guessing but I don't think anyone can understand the sacrifices made in accomplishing that goal. Meanwhile tree gear consumers have to stay on their toes, buying tree gear is not "faith-based", you look for who has what you want and offers fair prices and reliable service.

I like GAP. Bought stuff from them last year at ISA conference and was at the store in may. Ray is a great guy and will bend over backwards in service.

Whatever, man. Bonner is a dick and we all know it. And many of us have fun pointing it out. He also gets to soak up every bit of anger that anyone has towards treestuff for anything. I rarely see his name mentioned if it is not because someone is mad. And he just soaks it up and gives his answers and still does fun stuff like webinars and things. As irritating as he is on occasion (the hand sewn eyes thread, for example), he is still a knowledgeable individual and presence in our industry besides just getting bitched at because sherrilltreestuff.com is messing up. That's all I was pointing out. He's a pro scapegoat, and I hope that it is worth it. That's a tough job.

Whatever man back atcha. Based solely on my experiences alone he deserved every but of frustration I personally gave him. I can't speak for anyone but me and my history of spending a lot of money with them. Then being flippantly insulted on social media by him in response to a post made with no malice at all. I learned then all the money I spent with them and all the patronage I gave them meant nothing next to his sensitive personality and mood swings. I have about 50 years of purchasing experience and spent quite a bit of time in customer service. I learned you just don't treat your good customers like crap no matter how frustrating you feel. If you do you usually have someone to answer to. Unfortunately he has carte blanche and can be rude and dismissive to consumers with no recourse from the parent company. I personally respond to that by never ever giving them another penny of my hard earned money. So if you had read my post before your whatever man response you would see the post was objective and not insulting. I would suggest you revisit the hundreds of previous posts over the last several years and have a full understanding of the back story. This specific thread doesn't have all the details, hence my effort to be vague.

Breathe. I was mostly responding to the severity of your post, not the content. I've performed the full extent of my defense of Nick Bonner.
I have read a lot of your posts, and a whole lot of other posts about similar things.

I have come to the conclusion that it is hot outside. Everyone seems touchier than usual. Is it getting late July hot anywhere besides here? Because it is hot as balls. Everyone here is mad at the sun. It has been pushing 100 with high enough humidity that it has rained every evening for a week.

You guys spend a lot a time thinking about little old me and my desk job. I'm flattered!

Desk job... My girlfriend was watching your sorry ass on YouTube yesterday, climbing a silver maple. Never seen a guy talk so much while making actual progress in a tree, lol. "And now I'm using my [insert random piece of kit] available on ts.com..." "What? Why can't I bend the sh*t out of this branch? Y'all can suck it down there!" We had a good time watching.

That was a fun time. Testing Jambo 1!
