Once you narrowed it down to Oak (which I wouldn't have so quickly), I still couldn't pick out anything that looked like leaf margins which is why I went with Chestnut and Swamp chestnut. In hindsight, those trees are too "squatty" so that is why I think Post oak is a better guess than my first. But yeah, I'm pretty much just throwing oaks against the wall to see what sticks!
JD, I like that book. Where can it be had?
ATH, I narrowed it down because it is a somewhat obscure species that is often misidentified, in fact I had it wrong for quite a while. If I hadn't given the clues we would still be flailing at possibles. There has been considerable flailing even knowing the genus. You are incorrect with your last guess but you are very close.
